I...failed to realize that this was partially a murder mystery. I am not fond of murder mysteries/thrillers. They sadly just tend to bore me and I find no entertainment in them. I had gone into this book hoping for a story on the women and their lives and cultures and individual personalities and hopes/desires. This was sadly very overshadowed by the murder mystery aspect and got pushed aside as a subplot rather than the main premise. For these reasons, I am going to leave this book unrated since it's more just not my type of book rather than anything being wrong with the writing or the storytelling.

Really did enjoy seeing Nikki's growth, though.

This was a light and fun story about the Sikh community in the UK. There were a few actual erotic stories in the book which were cute and funny more than erotic. It wasn’t laugh-out-loud funny as I expected and not particularly poignant. However, I did have fun reading this even if it petered out near the end.

The real draw of the book is that it features older women who are neglected and ignored by society and their community. It was fun to see their sass and their vigour. It really carried the book as I did not particularly care for the main heroine, Nikki. She was fine but nothing really special. I’ve seen her story in movies about ABCDs before so I wasn’t engaged - but hearing the stories of the widows was great.

Overall, a 2.5 star book which I am rounding up given the Sikh context which I have not seen much in stories which are both fun and feature mature women. Go ladies!

Picked up this book on whim and I’m so glad I did. . I wanted to try something new. The story was different but I liked the plot and how there was the main story about the widows also other sub plots. The story kept a great pace and I flew through the boo.
