I normally don't enjoy "dark" books that lean heavily on the erotica side, but I think this was very well done.

From the beginning, all of the characters are created in a believable way, with their personalities discovered effortlessly as the story continues. You truly feel for Lola and her partner, as their stagnate life, and how it affects their relationship, is slowly developed.

The initial flirting between Beau and Lola was written wonderfully, so that you could truly feel the dichotomy in Lola of feeling both extremely uncomfortable and unexpectedly drawn in.

Once the plot continues, the tension is built up beautifully, and in a way that truly develops both Beau and Lola. It wouldn't be a "rich man buys a woman for a night" book without some pushing of boundaries that makes you as the reader uncomfortable along with Lola, but I thought it was tastefully done here where it's normally the make or break of stories for me.

My only criticisms are that Beau's mood swings near the end seem almost too much for his character, and that I found one of the flashbacks annoying to read since it referred to an event that had only just happened.

Omg omg omg!! Where do I start?
This book had me in knots, it had me hooked and emotional through the entire thing. I want to love Johnny, Lola's boyfriend of nine years but something holds me back. There's something about him the makes him safe and the wrong man for Lola from the beginning.
Lola has led a life that many wouldn't be proud of, she a waitress/bartender at a washed up bar in LA, Hey Joe's, it was a hot spot in it's hay day but now has fallen off the map. Living paycheck to paycheck is not the life lola dreamed of but its the life she has. She's made the most of what she's dealt and is happy with her life, but every once in a while she wants more.
Beau Oliver wants for nothing, except Lola, when he sees her he knows he needs to have her even if she has a boyfriend. He makes an offer to Johnny and Lola that rocks the boat they are in and the waters may never settle.

I'm unbelievably hooked and need book 2 ASAP! My mind is running away with me, Jessica has officially sucked me into another series and has me hook, line and sinker.

Move over David Dylan, here comes Beau Olivier. I didn’t say that. I’m sorry David, please forgive me.

If you know me at all, you know I am a HUGE Jessica Hawkins fan and have been since Come Undone, book one of The Cityscape Series. No one writes an alpha man quite like Jessica. I swear I fall in love with every fictional man she creates.

I seem to be fan girling all over this review.

When I heard Jessica was releasing a new series, I was all over it. There was no way I would miss these books, I don’t care how full my reading calendar is, I made room for these.

Ok, fan girling over for a few moments at least.

Lola and Johnny have been together forever. They manage a bar together in LA that was hugely popular in it’s heyday. Now that’s it’s limping along because management doesn’t want to move forward with the times.

Beau Olivier shows up one night for a business meeting and zeroes right in on Lola. These two have huge chemistry, even while Lola was being faithful to Johnny, you could feel something between them.

Beau offers them a proposition, enough $$$ to make their dreams come true for one night with Lola.

And so the story goes.

I’ve got to say, I’m team Beau. (I don’t know if I’m supposed to pick sides or not, but I can, so I will.) At the point where we enter their relationship, Johnny feels to me like he’s kind of given up on actually chasing dreams, even really thinking about dreams, and I think that has caused Lola to do the same.

I thought this was going to have a Pretty Woman feel to it just from the description and from what I remember of Pretty Woman (I haven’t watched it in at least over a decade) but it was so much better. Pretty Woman was ok, Night Fever was on fire. The chemistry, the hot scenes, the not as spicy scenes where their banter back and forth was absolutely perfect. Lola’s indecision and Johnny’s about the whole situation felt real to me. Most of us would probably say that we would automatically say no to being paid to spend one night with someone, but with that amount of cash on the table…. would you be able to say no?

Night Fever is another incredible book from Jessica Hawkins and I cannot hardly wait for vol. 2. While this one didn’t leave us with a huge cliffhanger, we know there is more to come which leaves us sitting here in anticipation of what is coming next for these 3.

Thank you so much for my copy of Night Fever! <3 <3 <3

A right person, wrong time story. Just why couldn't she ditch Johnny?

*Audible Review*
I had previously read Possession, and the entire Explicitly Yours series, a little over a year ago, but when I saw Jessica Hawkins was having the audiobook recorded I knew I had to read it again. Or rather, listen to it. Narrated by Christian Fox, one of romancelandia's favorite narrators, I knew I was in for an erotic audible adventure. I usually like female narrators or alternating narrators, but Christian Fox knocked the ball out of the park with Possession. His natural voice, used for the general story and descriptors, is just the right amount of manly for a story of this nature. His character voices too were excellent, with Lola just the right pitch higher and Beau's just the right amount of gruff and demanding. I was immediately pulled into the story and I didn't want to stop listening when I exited my car and I definitely didn't want it to be over when I realized the next book has not yet released on audiobook. I really like this series and I highly recommend listening to it on audible, it's excellent.

*Book Review*

Lola Winters is pretty in that natural sort of way. She wears leather pants, her hair is usually pulled back, and her face is devoid of makeup. As a bartender and assistant manager at Hey Joe, a place she's been at for years, she's got no one to impress. She has her regulars, her friends, and companionship behind the bar. The only thing she doesn't have is certainty, of the bar's future or of her own.

Beau Olivier is a businessman and he knows how to get what he wants and he always gets it. He doesn't expect anything different when he sets his sites on Lola Winters, using her desire to purchase Hey Joe as leverage for her to give him just one night. He's willing to make her dreams come true, but he has conditions and Lola has a reason to say no, yet the promise of a future is too hard to ignore.

Jessica Hawkins has a way of taking events that no one ever wants to experience personally and telling a story you can't put down. She puts you in Lola's shoes, she makes you fall for gruff Beau, and she makes you forget this is not a fairytale romance story. Beau is demanding, he requires complete submission, and yet he shows sincerity and emotion through out his short evening with Lola. Lola is innocent in many ways, her experience in life having left out the lesson for a deal such as this. Their meeting is unconventional, the promise of one night allows for an erotic affair, but emotions are such a fickle thing. Possession is an erotic novel built on secrets, promises, and lust. Money can buy you so much and time, though fleeting, always leaves a mark, and Jessica Hawkins certainly leaves a mark with Possession.
