The scenes were hot but I just couldn't get past the world building . Why is the world all normal except for this one city being olympus themed? Just wierd

Greek "gods" and kidnapping and sex.
Blazed through this audio book! It was admittedly more focused on the sex and less about an actual story. But I enjoyed it all the same!

This was a really interesting approach to Hades and Persephone and I liked it a lot! For me, Lore Olympus is still the gold standard, however, I liked this a lot more than other retellings I've read. The approach of the thirteen being job titles and not actual gods was super unique and it added some nice flavour to a story that can sometimes feel a bit stale with how many retellings there are. I think the deal with a demon series and court of the vampire queen were stronger books, however, I liked this enough to continue with the series!

So, I jumped into "Neon Gods" by Katee Robert, and let me tell you, it's like a wild rollercoaster through a modern Olympus full of secrets. Imagine Persephone, a high-society gal, getting thrown into an unexpected engagement with the dangerous Zeus, yanking her into a life she wants no part of. She ends up making a deal with Hades, once thought to be a myth, kicking off a sinful and sweet tale of love and revenge.
Katee Robert takes the classic Hades and Persephone story and gives it a modern, dark twist that got me hooked. The world-building is pretty cool, showing Olympus and the underworld as different sides of a city, with mob-like feuds keeping things spicy. And oh boy, the steamy scenes? Intense doesn't even cover it. But it's not just about the physical stuff; Hades' character development and how he copes with growing feelings are surprisingly engaging. He's kinda precious in this version.
Yet, let's be real, the book goes all-in on the steamy side, with about 85% of the plot being romance scenes. I dig romance, but it got a bit too much, leaving me a bit worn out. Also, missing magical powers and a thin plot, along with not much world-building, felt like a missed chance. If they balanced out the conflicts, plot, and world-building, it could've been perfect. Still, "Neon Gods" is a steamy and unconventional take on a classic myth, totally worth a read. Rating it 3.75 stars and 4 chili peppers – a sinful delight with a side of bittersweet.
