Overall, it was ok. The spice was good but there was a lot of potential for world building that was missed. Either some of details should've been left out or the book should've been a hundred pages longer to explain more about the world and the characters. I ended the book with too many open questions and there were more than a few "where did that come from?" moments as well.

I was overjoyed to see that even though this book was loaded with spice, it wasn’t written like cheap pr0n pulp. The writing was quite gorgeous and another added bonus was that I didn’t have to read all the previous books in the series either. This seemed to be a standalone, or at least my lack of having read the previous five books did not diminish my enjoyment at all.

I can’t say much about the characters since most of their interactions were… quite steamy to say the least and extremely insta-lovey. Still, the world felt intriguing and it made me wish that there was a whole wlw series exploring each court so I could learn what lies behind the friendships and animosities. Though maybe the previous books in the series did just that, but if they are not wlw, I am not that inclined to read them right now. 😅

In any case, we really do need more awesome sapphic fae romance in our lives. Or at least I do.

Despite the kinky sex and the fae orgies, I found this book to be really sweet.

I was a bit concerned when reading that the Queen would fall into the "She's evil but hot" trope without anything else going for her, but I'm very happy that she was given more depth. She might not have been the most outward emotional character but she had some really sweet scenes with Janneth.

The smut was also really well written and was fun to see the difference between the orgy scenes and the ones that were just the Queen and Janneth. I think this was a great stand alone book that jsut hits the right spot of satisfaction.

The Fae Queen's Captive is a seductive and captivating dark fantasy romance that pushes boundaries and explores the forbidden. With its enthralling world-building, intense chemistry between the characters, and a complex web of power dynamics, this book is a thrilling and passionate journey into the realm of the Fae.

I genuinely wish that this had been a bit longer. I loved Janneth and Morgana, but I feel like the length of the book really prevented us from seeing their relationship move along and develop. I would have loved to have seen that tailed along a bit. Also, with regards to the conflict (centering around the beef between the faerie courts) had the potential to be so interesting, but again we only got a glimpse. I know this is part of a series and maybe it's explored more in other books but I felt it could have really been beneficial here to add a little layer of suspense instead of a little sprinkle.

Janneth was a great character, knowing fully what age wanted from life and fully embraced her desires and hopes for the future. I did feel so sorry for her at a certain point as there is a huge betrayal going down.

Morgana was very much the softened ice queen and fit the bill 100% Absolutely savage, but is also showing a little vulnerability around our MC.

I really appreciated that we managed to get a decent look at the world we were in without having to read through extensive world building. Which I enjoy, but not if I'm looking for a nice easy fantasy romance to chill for a day with. The descriptions were great, loved the language used, and I really loved the "glassed" concept. Again, something I would have loved to have been expanded on in a full length novel. And the inclusion of it being set in Scotland and references to Celtic mythology was 😘👌 Always a bonus for me.

The pacing felt a little strange for me as parts flowed nicely then other parts would begin and end really abruptly. Again, the potential downside of a shorter novel (175 pages or thereabouts).

This would be perfect for someone looking for a spicy Sapphic fantasy without having to go through a ton of world building.
