Die Szene mit der Tochter aus dem Prozess, gegen Ende des Buchs, setzt die Pädo-"Romanze" zum ersten Mal ins richtige Licht und zeigt, dass der Autor sich der Verhältnisse doch bewusster ist als es zu erst schien.

Too much history for me. Since I am not fully understand nor having knowledge of WW2 history, I could not enjoy The Reader in full capacity. 

Sorry. I know this book received so many good reviews. I am sure it was good book.
