Rain is a bloody legend, Night must get past his emotional constipation, and Bernard ( the demon familiar) wants a baby-- no, not to eat.
.
I loved this book. I love the characters and the added complexity of remembering a forgotten past that's also been lost in the tomes of history and having it collide with the current predicament. I did not say love too much because it's not possible where this book is concerned.
.
This book kept the romantic tension while making the sweet moments melt worthy, upped the spice and the fight scenes, and still managed to intersperse the funnies. Bernard remains the best. This was just a story full of so many wonderful things of both entertaining and contemplative natures.
.
I did a re-read with the audiobook. The narration of this one was just as delightful as the last. Hearing the Mad Marquess had me squealing with delight! I will say that Sora's accent was a bit inconsistent, but not so much that I was too bothered by it. Overall, a great narration!

I was glad to get a resolution to the story, but similar to my review of the first book, I felt that this really should have been just a single book in terms of plot. Rain and Night are both interesting in their own right, and I was happy to read their love story, but it did feel like I didn't get to see why they cared for each other.

🫂Spice (1-5): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
🎧Narration (1-5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐
☑️M/F romance
☑️Historical fantasy with f-bombs
☑️Found family
☑️Fated mates
☑️Witches
☑️Fae
☑️Dragons
☑️Demons
☑️Political intrigues
☑️HEA
King of Tricksters picks up right were the first book ended so we are in for a pretty dramatic start. It's a bit quicker paced, more impending war, threats and strategizing, which makes sense as our couple is more established. We also get to know more about Rain's past, which turns out having quite an impact on the present and the future.
The romance in these two books is sweet and tender, like a warm hug. I liked how they had to nurture the mate bond by caring for one another with small, everyday routines.
The series continues but with a different couple.
🌳🌳🌳🌳 Four trees out of five.
(4 = A great read that I do recommend.)
