I love Jane Austen's story of Pride and Prejudice, but her writing style is really hard for me to get into. So, I read Sense and Sensibility with caution. I was not hooked in to the story as much, but it did have it's good moments. I found myself having a harder time reading this book compared to P&P.
The plot was predictable and a little dull for my taste, but I did enjoy the few big moments or "twists" that it had. I found that reading about two girls going to parties and trying to get married boring, and I couldn't help but fall asleep many times the first half of the book. By halfway though, the story picked up and got me more interested. What's interesting about this book was that even though I did not enjoy the book as I hoped while reading it, I couldn't help but think about the story while not reading it. As simple of a story as it was, Jane Austen knew how to leave an impression.
What stood out to me about the book were its characters. There was great development. I liked how the majority of the characters grew by the end of the book. For example, Marianne's character was immature in the beginning and only thought of herself but towards the end she became more considerate of others and was able to let go of her hurt. I also enjoyed how Willoughby's character changed the last few pages. The characters were the best part.
Overall, I did like story but I did not love it. It was hard for me to get into but I was able to finish it.

Marianne best girl. I too, wish I have a sister who would bring up all the passive-agrressive-ness when people are being rude to me. The passion Marianne showed in defending Elinor is most precious.

At first I was really scared that I wouldn't understand this novel because it's so old AHAAHAAHA also I tried in high school but I think I was just too depressed to understand anything back then.
ANYWAYS... I LOVE THIS BOOK WITH ALL MY HEART. I was so pleasantly suprised and now understand why Jane Austen is praise so much. This was such a beautifully written story and tue characters felt so real and tangible. Even though it's a very old novel it's still very relatable in family dynamics and the sisters' bond which I absolutely ADOREDDDD. I LOVE FAMILY AND SISTER STORIES LEMME TELL YOU. Anyways love Jane (we're on a first name basis dw) and I love this masterpiece!!!!!

Another satisfying Austen read. Just as in Mansfield Park, I am always disappointed when Austen decides to describe the climax/conclusion of the story from a distance. Why does she choose to describe Edward’s marriage proposal to Elinor almost as an afterthought? As the reader, I wish to hear him stammer and hedge and finally ask her. And Colonel Brandon’s proposal as well, although I do understand that one being left to a distant recount by the narrator, since it was said to be a gradual, slow attachment between the two lovers. Aside from the ending not being as exciting and personal as I would have liked, the book was enjoyable and I had the extra pleasure of reading the annotated version which really helped my understanding of the time period and certain sayings and descriptions which have always been a bit of a mystery to me in 18th century British novels.
