While this novella doesn't feel quite as essential to the overall story as some, I still loved every minute of it. And what a rollercoaster of a ride! So many things were revealed about The Oracle Queen here. The final result was a complete surprise to me (though I was figuring things out along the way, it blew my initial assumptions about the Oracle Queen from the other books in the series out of the water). Highly recommend you read this if you're a fan of the series!!

Great to see some backstory of why they now rob the other sisters of killing oracle queens and drowning them for them.

Just read that and realize how accustomed I have gotten to the morbid book life. CURSE YOU AMBER AND GABBY!

The first line was a joke, it was messed up that even after so many years the lies killed so many queens as babies. SCREW THE ARRON WHO DID THIS!

I feel bad for Elsabet and she should have chosen a better king consort, and even though I don't think revenge cheating is okay, SHE COULD HAVE CHEATED ON HIM WITH JONATHAN AND I WOULD HAVE SUPPORTED IT!

Regardless, this was a fun, fresh and good read!

I'm so happy that I finally found time to read this!! It was better than I expected it would be.

The Oracle Queen didn't really satisfy all my questions that I had about the Oracle Queen. We've heard so much about this crazy queen so I was intrigued to find out more about her. It was definitely interesting to see how different everything was back then. Especially with how it is with the girls now.

Then there's Queen Elsabet.. who was interesting to say the least. Poor girl was a very young queen but then again, I feel like it's always been that way in this world. Besides that, she was constantly paranoid that I felt so bad for her. It was definitely a weak point for her because she made so many bad decisions. It kind of reminded me of where I'm at in this series.. almost at the end of the series - here I come book 4!

Overall, I liked it but I think it was missing something. No idea what that would be but that's all I got.

Kendare Blake is a lovely writer and I absolutely will read anything in the Three Dark Crowns universe. While this prequel was extremely fascinating and offered great insight into the history of world she created, it had my LEAST favorite trope which is essentially “gaslighting.” I totally see how it was necessary for the story to show how cruel the characters were, but it also caused me a lot of anxiety to read about a character who is being gaslighted or made to seem “mad.”

"No Sight, no sound, no fault was found, no treason to be had. Yet everyone would die that day for Elsabet the mad."

I was never a fan of reading novellas but I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS!!! I am so glad I actually decided to read this because it was never in my agenda in the first place. I've seen some so-so reviews of this novella and I thought I would hate it, but is it normal that I actually loved it?
Would it be mad if I say that I love Queen Elsabet?! I LOVE HER AND PITY HER AT THE SAME TIME! DAMN THE ARRONS! I think it's really essential to read this novella before continuing with the next books of the series. It gave us a glimpse of Queen Elsabet's reign and what really happened on 'that' day. I hope we get justice for Elsabet! She was fcking set up by the Black council! All the oracle babies who had been born and drowned because of the said event didn't deserve it! THEY WERE NEVER THE PROBLEM! IT WAS THE FCKING ARRONS!!! #JusticeForTheOracleQueen 👊
