This is the third Ben H. Winters book I’ve read, and easily my favorite of the bunch. The other two (The Last Policeman, Underground Airlines) had wonderful concepts, but the execution just didn’t fully do it for me.
The concept in this one is gloriously inventive too—it’s the first thing mentioned on the inside book jacket, and the reason I grabbed this on a whim from my library. It’s a killer premise, but at the same time, the story works a lot better not knowing this info going in. Good for marketing, but hurts the storytelling—a definite dilemma!
Ultimately, while this has the fun, light sci-fi elements that are My Jam™️, the characters and mystery elements were the parts that really elevated this story.

Kept me on the edge of my toes! Interesting concept and I liked the flow of different perspectives from chapter to chapter. Lots of intensity.
I have continually tried to read this and get into it but honestly it's so ridiculous and confusing I just can't be bothered anymore.
The book didn’t move me the way some of the author’s other have. But that was a whopper of an ending!
