My first read of the year was a graphic non-fiction memoir. It tells of Una's coming of age set against the back drop of the Yorkshire Ripper murders. It says a lot about how the media and police force treated the female victims at the time while also exploring Una's own abuse and self worth. It features real media reports and how Una felt growing up around the sexism of the time. Thankfully not as graphic in detail as I was worried it might be. It was interesting to learn about that time and case. Great read though it made me really mad at the misogyny of the time.

Wow. Combining her own story of sexual assault with the Yorkshire Ripper murders of the 70s, Una creates a graphic novel unlike any I've read before. A great example of a story that seems it could only be told with the graphic novel format. An excellent argument for the case that we are far from solving the problem of male-on-female violence worldwide.

This book is stunning and everyone should read it.

I learned quite a bit about the shambolic investigation surrounding the horrific attacks made by Peter Sutcliffe in the 1970s but that’s not really what this book is about. It is about growing up as a woman in a society riddled with misogyny and on that front it is very powerful.

Great to read on the current theme of #metoo.
graphic novel, part autobiographical, part facts/info
looking at the issues of sexual assault and the environment that women live within this issue.
I had got this book as a recommendation - although I think it was another book with a similar title that had been the original recommendation.

i sort of speed-read it for class.

i've never read a graphic novel like this before, so it was definitely an interesting read, and i like how una used different sorts of graphics/visuals like the paper clippings. i think that the sheer mass of text on some of the pages is also sort of daunting, but an interesting choice in a graphic novel especially.
