I had high expectations for the final book in Melissa Blair’s Halfling Saga because it has been one of my favourite series. While this series still holds strong as a favourite An Honored Vow left me a little disappointed but still rounded out as an overall fantastic conclusion to the saga.
This final book highlights so much growth for our FMC, Keera. Her journey of resilience and strength are woven throughout every scene. The weight that she carries, the guilt and responsibility help guide her path and decisions but we get to see her lean on the family she has built along the way. The background characters added such a wonderful depth to the story. We get to see the strength of their bonds, how they struggle with betrayal, grief and forgiveness and some truly heartwarming moments as well. Seeing some of the arcs for the other characters was wonderful. My favourite characters from the other books, Nik and Riven, felt kind of sidelined in this one. I understand their absence but they were both so missed. I guess that lends to how well Blair has been at creating such dynamic and loveable characters.
The dynamic between Keera and Riven fell flat in this book. Riven’s own guilt caused such a rip between the characters that I had a hard time believing in their eventual reunion. He was just portrayed as being irrevocably damaged and I kind of lost faith at points in his redemption.
The action scenes were extremely well paced, gripping and mindfully crafted. Blair built every scene with intention and led us to a tense and satisfying final battle. There was a bit of predictability in some of the plot, especially the deaths. The foreshadowing was almost too obvious in some instances.
The world building is spectacular. There wasn’t a detail missed when Blair built this world and I loved how I could fully immerse myself into each scene with the characters. The magical system is amazing and I loved the introduction of new powers.
Overall, An Honored Vow is a wonderful conclusion to the Halfling Saga. An absolute emotional rollercoaster with strongly developed characters, thrilling battle scenes, complex themes like colonial oppression, alcoholism, depression and abuse and Melissa Blair handles each issue with such integrity and grace. This will remain one of my favourite series and I can definitely see myself rereading this journey again and again because I refuse to leave this world and characters behind.

Great ending to the series! Absolutely loved it! This is exactly where it needed to end, though I wouldn’t mind a novella or two! Just saying.
