I’m writing this review late and I think I totally blacked out whole book except Gerarda which became my favourite character.
Did her partner died wtf???
I think that might be the reason of the blackout. We just can’t have happy wlw story 🙄
For how much I loved duality of Riven I feel he became quite useless in the last book and what a pity… he deserved better.
However I enjoyed Gwyn’s
dabbling in dark magic 👀

Ending felt bit rushed. Idk about this… when I finished book 3 I was really excited and when I was listening to this I often had to force myself and at the end I was like: 😐

An Honored Vow is the perfect way to wrap up The Halfling Saga. Honestly, I’m still thinking about this book weeks after finishing it. I couldn’t put it down. Once I started, I read it in a single sitting, barely pausing to take a breath. If you loved the second and third books (and trust me, you will), this one is a whole new level of amazing.

Keera’s journey in this book was so emotional to watch. Her growth throughout the series is nothing short of incredible. By book four, she is such a different person, and in the best possible way. Watching her evolve over the course of this series honestly brought me to tears. I also want to give a shout-out to Gerarda. She started as a character I liked, but in this book, she became my absolute favorite side character.

Melissa Blair has done such a beautiful job building this story piece by piece and character by character. It is obvious how much care and love went into crafting each part of this series. Watching it all come together felt like witnessing a masterpiece unfold. I really appreciated that this book did not go as heavy on the war and fighting as I was expecting. There is plenty of tension and high-stakes drama, but the quieter and more tender moments truly shine.

The themes in this book were so impactful. The way the story addresses colonization and the brutal thirst for power is done brilliantly. Damien’s evil is not complex or mysterious; it is rooted in greed and power for the sake of it. This choice highlights the harsh reality of colonization in a simple but incredibly effective way.

Final Thoughts:

This book is the perfect conclusion to an amazing series. It is emotional, intense, and everything I could have asked for in a final book. I am sad to say goodbye to these characters, but An Honored Vow did them justice in every way. If you are a fan of the series, you will not be disappointed.

Thank you to Melissa Blair and TBR & Beyond for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

Although I wasn't completely wow'ed by the first book in this is series, especially with the inundation of romantasy, I'm so glad that I reread it and then finished the rest of the series in short order. The characters develop and grow so much in the books, and I loved seeing so many scenes depicting their emotional personal and interpersonal struggles. There are powerful moments in the series about recovering from trauma, learning to live with your mistakes, starting to live/dream/thrive instead of just survive, maintaining hope, and honoring your ancestors. There are also so many scenes about reconciliation with oneself, family, and culture, as well as carrying out traditions that tangibly bind us to the past and each other as we build a better future.

A great ending to the series. I liked the balance of life versus fighting and appreciated the interest and in some cases humor brought to the fight scenes. There were some very emotional scenes that brought tears to my eyes.
