loved the way Indigenous culture was written and that it was bringing an important issue to attention. I felt like Little Moon showed the effect missing indigenous women had on their families and friends was done a bit better.

the characters didn't talk like real people. there were too many point of views and it made the story feel like it was going, like instead of a line, it felt like a circle. also please why would we need that many povs 😭 and why did they need to be multiple per chapters???? 😭 give me one pov per chapter or give me a narrator wth is this it was so hard to follow 😭

I'm not saying that the things that happened in this book are unbelievable but the way they were written made me not believe them. the book was a bit longer than it should have been as well and the ending was somehow both to long and to quick. i just think this book needed a bit more editing before getting published.

considering this is the authors debut im going to give half a star more bc like the vision was there i think she just needed to be guided a bit more

After being shunned by her classmates, new girl Mara Racette thinks life may be looking up when she’s included in a traditional Blackfeet giveaway to honor missing classmate, Rayanne Arnoux. Instead, her participation turns her into a suspect after her classmate, Samantha White Tail, is murdered at the ceremony. While police investigate all four members of the giveaway - Mara, Loren, Brody, Eli - each becomes desperate to hide their secrets and prove their innocence. Who can be trusted? And who might be murdered next?

THOUGHTS: This fast-paced mystery will appeal to fans of Firekeeper’s Daughter and One of Us is Lying. While the alternating viewpoints can be a little difficult to follow, as the story progresses the flow improves. Readers will gain much knowledge about the traditions and culture of the Blackfeet nation. The story also illuminates the little-talked-about issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

This was great! And it spreads so much needed awareness. My only problem with this book and why it wasn’t a 5 star is the multiple voices. The author did an amazing job with it, but for me sometimes I had a hard time following it because of it. BUT that is just me

powerful and captivating

At the end of this book, I am left with a full heart. A heavy heart? A spent heart? A broken heart? As a white, middle aged, cis woman, I cannot begin to understand the experiences of someone like Mara, Eli, Brody, Jason, Loren, Rayanne, Samantha, Geraldine, or MJ. But reading fictional stories based on real issues, listening to accounts of real MMIWG2S, and doing what we can to amplify their voices is important. The author masterfully made me care about each character, and kept me reading long past my bedtime for several nights!
