3,5/5

First book completed for the Reading Rush 2020
I'll come back to review this fully when I have more brain cells. I did really love the writing style of this book!

2.5-3/5 stars - Overall, an interesting book about trauma and escape with doors between worlds. A bit more historical-feeling than fantasy-feeling, which wasn't my hope for the book. Also, slower in the beginning with just setting the characters and the world. Thankfully with audiobooks you can speed up to get through those parts, otherwise I'm not sure I would've finished a physical read of this one.
I have never been more happier that a book lived up to my expectations. I have a feeling I will be thinking about this book for a very long time.
Imperdibile

I was more interested in the other books on my TBR thank this, so I dnf’d.
A beautiful love letter filled with open doors.
I was told this was reminiscent to The Starless Sea and I think that it’s the best comparison yet. It definitely takes a similar path filled with magical doors and alternate worlds. As much as I love The Starless Sea, I think this book is easier to follow, the plot is more one track and while we alternate between two stories, it is easy to follow and when the pieces come together it’s a eureka moment.
I was captivated and hopeful. I loved reading “the book” that January finds within this book. It allowed for a change of pace and keeps a readers attention when you think things may start to become mundane. I appreciate how the author didn’t linger too long on specific scenes and may have skipped over days to keep the flow of the story.
The true star, for me, was the description, bringing to life a world(s) we can only wish to visit in our dreams.
