Bah. This book. Such a slow start I didn’t want to go on but then it GOT ME. bought it at book club in NYC because someone said it’d give me the same feels as sleep no more. I don’t know about that, but it was special. And made me want to write which I always love in a book

I don't really know how to review this perfect book. There is mystery, found family, a fiercely loyal dog, soul mates, and urban fantasy. There is also a book within a book that was done so exquisitely well. Alix E Harrow is the queen of epic openings, fantasy portals, bad ass witch energy, and making you remember that magic is real. Her writing is so multisensory, just like in her second novel, Once and Future Witches (which is also a perfect book). I will read anything by her forever after.
