Boring. It sounded like such a cool book, but the story never came together & it was a bit too whiny/sappy for me.

3.5 This was a really pretty book. I enjoyed the concept of the magical doors and the adventure. The ending was quite lovely. It’s a very light hearted read for the adult fantasy lover. I personally did not connect with the style of writing and found certain parts of it drawn out and challenging to finish as it tended to lose my attention. However, if you enjoy the authors style of writing, it has the potential to be a magical read for some.

DID NOT FINISH: 33%

DNF at about 35%. This book is so slow and not at all what I expected. The narrator is excellent but so far I’ve just spent four hours listening to January whine, and I feel nothing for any of the characters.

I expected some kind of magic and for the doors to be part of the story. They really aren’t. They are just kind of there. Sort of. 30% in I could see exactly where this was going… and I just don’t care. :/

“It smelled like adventure itself had been harvested in the wild, distilled to a fine wine, and splashed across each page”

“I hope you will find the cracks in the world and wedge them wider, so the light of other suns shines through”

If you like whimsical, portal fantasies and character driven books this is for you! The writing in this was so lyrical. I felt so immersed into the story! I enjoyed the slow pace of this story, as; it allowed great insight to the world and build up for the story! This is definitely one of those books I wish I could read for the first time again!

A beautiful, enchanting story.

"Doors, like murder suspects in cheap mysteries, are often where you least expect them."
