Something extremely charming about Harrow's writing is the way her prose beautifully weaves a world, and if you're interested in historical fiction you'll likely find yourself having a great time with this novel! Unfortunately, I struggled to sink into this one... I feel like it was both too long, and the action too rushed between long stretches of the rest of the plot. I still enjoyed it, but definitely like some of her other works more.
Captivating story and kept me up too late reading. Great book.
They killed the dog. It was obviously more than that. I couldn’t get into it. But that was my final straw

Loves it. But the first half was really slow. I almost couldn’t hang on long enough to get traction. Boy am I glad I did! I feel like the story was beautiful and full of prose and love. It paid off in the end.
There were some good parts and interesting ideas, but I found the narrator/main character snively and irritating.

I liked the book, but the ending felt rushed and I wish there was more adventure. Felt a little stagnant in parts.

This book follows January who live with Mr Locke that man that her father collects strange and unique artefacts for. When January was a child she opened a door to another world, however as she gets older she starts to believe that this was only a figment of her imagination until she finds a book within Mr Locke's collection which leads her to doubt everything she has known and takes her on a journey she never dreamed possible.
This is such a magical book and I can't get over how beautifully written this is. I really loved the character of January and really related to her desire to go Elsewhere. This book also discusses race and class in a really important way.
Overall I really loved this book and gave this 4 out of 5 stars.
