I don't think I really knew what this book was supposed to be about, even though I knew it was really famous. My first thought was that it was really short. The book I got from the library is around 200 pages, but only 55 of those pages is the actual story. The rest is the introduction, notes on the text, various comments by the author, and critical essays. And the ending was not what I expected, a little anticlimactic, actually. Though I suppose when you really think about it, there's no other way it could have ended.... But yes, it's essentially a three-chapter book about a man who wakes up one morning to find that he's been transformed into a human-sized beetle.

"The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka is an iconic work that explores themes of alienation and identity through the surreal transformation of Gregor Samsa into a giant insect. Kafka's ability to evoke a deeply unsettling atmosphere and his profound philosophical insights are commendable. However, the dense prose, repetitive narrative, and lack of clear resolution may challenge some readers. While it offers much to ponder for those interested in existential questions, its unconventional style and bleak themes may not resonate with everyone, making it a significant yet potentially difficult read.
