Here we are, the fourth entry in the Chew series. Chew, Colby, and sometimes Valenzano go up against an enormous man, a kid named Peter Pilaf, and team up with the USDA. More of Chew's family history is explored and the secret of the writing in the sky is revealed.
Until the last issue in this collection, I was thinking about this being the last issue of Chew I read. The pace is soooooooo slooooooooooooooooow. I like all of the double dealing and family secrets and whatnot but the chicken conspiracy plot has barely advanced.
However, I do intend to continue. Layman is good at timing his twists, as the end of this collection showed. Also, a chicken restaurant called Mother Cluckers is hilarious. And I'm glad Chu didn't have to eat a dirty diaper. I plan on continuing the series but my enjoyment is waning.

This is a very funny series. After chicken prohibition, psychic dinning and over the top craziness we now have a killer rooster, a super intelligent obese guy that gets smarter by eating and a general increase in wtfery.

I don't know, I feel like I can't keep giving these five stars... I try and be sparing with those, so this gets four, more or less on a whim. They're all incredible, though. Read the notes and signs and any writing in the background - it's almost always hilarious.

Da es sich hier um den vierten Band einer Reihe handelt, werde ich nichts zum Inhalt sagen. Wenn euch interessiert, um was es in dieser absolut einzigartigen und genialen Reihe geht, dann lest bitte meine Rezi zu Band 1 HIER.
Die Zeichnungen und der Inhalt an sich ist ziemlich makaber – wer Blut und ekelige Dinge nicht so ab kann, der sollte lieber vorsichtig sein, obwohl gerade dieser Band eher harmlos ist. Es wird aber alles in einem extrem lustigen und sehr comiclastigen Stil vermittelt. Ich selbst bin ja eher ein Angsthase und mag nichts Ekeliges, aber diese Reihe ist einfach zu genial. Es hat im Gegensatz zu anderen Graphic Novels eine super spannende Geschichte und einen herrlichen Humor. Letzterer wird vor allem durch die sehr gute Mimik und Gestik in den Zeichnungen vermittelt. Die Story wird größtenteils durch die Bilder erzählt und der Text nimmt einen deutlich kleineren Teil ein. Trotzdem ist die Story sehr komplex. Allerdings zieht sie sich auch über die verschiedenen Teile der Chew Reihe hinweg und in den einzelnen Bänden werden immer nur kleine Teile abgeschlossen. Daher sollte man sie in der richtigen Reihenfolge lesen!
Wie schon in den Rezis zu den anderen Teilen erwähnt, ist der Zeichenstil hier wirklich einzigartig. Die Charaktere kann man ganz deutlich auseinander halten, sie sind eher skurril und sehr eigen. Der Stil ist der gleiche wie auf dem Cover – hier kauft man nicht wie bei manch anderen Graphic Novels eine Mogelpackung. Freie Fläche gibt es ebenfalls nicht. Hier wird jede Seite genutzt und ist komplett bedruckt. Außerdem ist das ganze sehr farbig und trotzdem angenehm fürs Auge.
Den Preis von rund 10 € ist hier absolut gerechtfertigt, da man sowohl etwas fürs Auge als auch eine sehr interessant und spannende Story erhält.
Das Ende ist ein richtiger Cliffhanger und man will sofort weiterlesen.

Still a satisfying read. Still great artwork. It is extremely difficult to get into an explanation of what is happening in this book without going into an awful lot of detail, which would also involve spoilers. Layman is building layers and characters to the concept of the 'food freaks' (people with special food-related powers) that are now tied into alien invasions, flaming messages in outer space, and a maybe-vampire/maybe-just-eccentric-but-definitely-immoral-cibopath. Must note that taking the time to study the images, and all the weird little background details is also worth the effort: Free Phil Collins album indeed.

O humor e as coisas estranhas e doidas fazem este volume. O senão é o rumo da história que não me parece bem definido. Muita coisa acontece, mas simultaneamente parece que o enredo não desenvolve. Apesar disso, diverti-me imenso, como sempre, e adoro as ilustrações!
