The second book in a trio, the writing is good, the worl  building is ok, I'm not entirely hooked on the plot, but I will read the third book to finish it out and see what happens.

I liked this one better than the first. That's one thing that I love about fantasy: the author can write a great commentary on current events but put in a fantasy world, it is easier to digest, and makes a reader think about topics at a more subconscious level. Reintgen discusses the caste system outright in this book, something that is definitely relevant in today's society. Also, his world building and creature imaginings are very original and engrossing. Can't wait to read the third!
