Part cookbook, part memoir and full of Pepin’s original watercolors of chickens. Some of the watercolors were realistic, some were more a creative interpretation of chicken. Over all I enjoyed the book and can only hope other chefs include their art in the next cookbook.

I love Jacques! This one is like a mini memoir with chicken recipes and their associated stories. It’s much more storytelling than recipe writing. And yes, lots of his joyfully colorful paintings of chickens.

I really enjoyed this. I wish he had talked more about his art. He talks a lot about cooking, chicken specifically, but how did his artistic skill and (frankly) obsession with chicken art start?

Those who know me are aware of how much I adore this man (from afar...no stalking involved) and how I'd like him to narrate my everyday coming and goings...anyhoo. This book. What can I say. Well #1, Mr. Pepin was clearly more productive during the pandemic than I was, given the number of chickens painted during 2020-2021. And #2 he gives us such a beautiful reminiscence of his culinary career along with his beautiful paintings. His love of offal and aspic aren't for me, but I love that he always cooks with his intended in mind. Happy cooking.

The man knows how to paint a chicken. Turns out, he also knows how to cook one!

I enjoyed his whimsical style. I like the idea of painting a menu. I can’t imagine having time for such things. But that’s why we read…to experience different lifestyles.

4 stars. Lots of chicken art and some interesting chicken stories and (loosely speaking) recipes from Jacques Pepin. This is not a cookbook although various techniques are covered; there aren't any precise recipes. It's sort of a memoir with the theme 'ode to chickens' (and eggs - there is also a section about eggs). I found it an enjoyable read and the chicken art is fun.

Love chef Jaques Pepin and his artistry and how he gives you a new perspective on chicken as art. This is with recipes, written words, and his artwork.

Part memoir, part recipes, part gorgeous paintings of chickens both real and imaginary, plus glimpses (in prose) of his good friend Julia Child. It's very pleasant to spend time with M. Pépin.
