Although there was lots to enjoy about this book, I found that in general there were too many characters to keep track of what was happening. I also didn’t find that the ending was satisfying enough for how long it took to get there.

A very conventional action thriller, in le carre's magical writing
Very le Carré, I suppose you have to say, at least it ends that way. At the start this is a very straightforward adventure story about an enigmatic and solitary character who builds a legend, with the help of the British secret service to get close to a very bad man, Roper, an arms dealer. By the end, we find ourselves wading through the interminable office politics of various Whitehall mandarins. The clever part is that we soon understand that the bad guys work on both sides, and the good guys are fighting a losing battle. It starts so well, but finishes with, just about a 7 out of 10.
A bit too long and boring in parts. The parts that weren't boring were very good though.
Read half of book and was done. Annoying writing style to me. A lot of focus on certain things and then glossing over others. Convoluted sentences. More word count than "The Spy...", but less book. Also, didn't appreciate conversations in French. I don't speak French. A few words is one thing. I had no idea if I was missing something important. Disappointed.
well..
it started with something really promising, and ended with something that's less than nothing. And between that, it's all the long boring bureaucratic conflicts--although, thanks to le Carré's talents, it didn't make the characters boring or less likable.
