(Me llegó a abrumar).
Y me hubiera gustado un final más amargo. Sinceramente lo sentí como un mal chiste después de tremendo subidón de adrenalina

Usually I love John Le Carré books but this one was such a slog how it’s nearly 600 pages without saying much of anything is really a marvel

I really love Jonathan, and the bureaucratic side of the scheming, I found all the characters in that web of lies very compelling. I didn’t feel the female characters were very fleshed out, and some bits made me uncomfortable for a variety of reasons (racism, sexism, homophobia) as it didn’t always feel necessary to have that included. Beautifully tense and dramatic though, and I love the characters as always so 3 dimensional with complex push and pull factors shaping them and their interactions.
This is a tough one to rate. I enjoyed a lot of the dialogue in this book, but for its length there really wasn't much going on. It also ends rather abruptly in a way that I didn't find satisfying. I'm torn because there are good characters here with excellent writing, but they don't spend enough time together. Instead there's a lot of espionage speak and agency politics and infighting.
I think I like this book more in theory than in practice.

I decided to read this after I had watched the miniseries on Amazon Prime just a few months prior. The story is very different - different era, different climax, different outcome. There are so many characters introduced that it is easy to get lost on who is who, with the exception of the few main characters (and if you've watched the miniseries as well, you'll notice that some characters have changed gender, which I don't mind, but it can confuse you when trying to visualize who is who). Lots of bouncing around between scenes and during the earlier parts of the book, even bouncing from different moments in time. This book is also heavily laced with strong language, which is a major deterrent for me, and there were pages that were difficult for me to get through. Overall story is one of espionage and given that I knew where the story would go, roughly based off the miniseries, it was a little interesting, but I was confused so often with the different characters and being bounced around it made me lose my interest. The book ends fairly abruptly and doesn't give much of a conclusion. Once I finished I was rather disappointed.

John Le Carre doesn’t write simply in a third person action packed way. The story unfolds as you see it through the characters’ experiences and dialog.
This is no different and may be more so.
Intrigue, murder, spies and criminals.
