A very raw and visceral read set in a dystopian world created by religious extremists, and a group of youth minorities fighting for survival and finding strength in their identities and relationships

I think white did an outstanding job with this one. It was a hard hitting and often times challenging and gruesome read, but  It was an enjoyable read and it’s clear what he is setting out to do. The only reason I didn’t rate it higher is that at times I felt the pacing of this one was a bit off, too slow in some parts and too fast in others. Additionally, although I am LGBTQ+, I am a cisgendered woman without any religious trauma, so the struggles of the main character did not hit as hard for me personally as it is not my lived experience. I recognize though that this is incredibly important literature for people with these experience to have access too. I’m looking forward to reading more from Andrew!

I found the characterisation to be very repetitive and lack range. The fantastical concepts were very thin as well.
