I know those who love this book and the series love it but I can not get to even the bachelor party because of how Rachel is treated. She’s left alone to fend of herself half of this book under the impression that she’s meeting some down to earth family and then when she realizes the truth everyone is like “oh we should have told her” but then have the AUDACITY to then turn on her and act shocked when she doesn’t know some rich people? Like how tf am I supposed to root for them when I am begging her to leave his ass

This book is pretty ridiculous, with flat characters and an improbable plot. The author clearly loves luxury fashion and invests a lot of detail into describing it. Still, I will probably read the next in the series because I like a bit of easy escapism in between other books, and this one was exactly that. (FWIW I really enjoyed the movie.). UPDATE: tried the second (China Rich Girlfriend) and it was so awful I couldn’t keep going. Not sure how to keep a list of books I couldn’t finish here on goodreads.

I thought this book was hilarious! I was a little confused in the beginning trying to keep all of the names and how they're related straight. However I did enjoy learning all the side stories of the cousins. I later saw the film and I felt that aspect lacking in the plot. I hope they continue the cousins' stories in further films. I cannot wait to continue the series 😊

This light and breezy book is a hilarious look into the lives of the obscenely rich. The idea of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on one dress is mind blowing - and that is just the start of the crazy spending habits. I thought this book also gave a fascinating look into what money can do to people and relationships. The main characters, Rachel and Nick, are lovable, and Astrid, one of the supporting characters, steals the spotlight just as much in the book as she does in her social circles. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants an easy (though long) read and is interested in the lives of the fabulously rich.

Still one of my favorites and such a great listen.

English Review below.

If the families in some of the beloved Korean dramas were bigger and crazier and richer, this is them. At the heart of this story, there's the love story of Nick and Rachel, two Asian professors in New York, who have been dating for two years, when Nick invites Rachel to his home in Singapore to attend a wedding and meet his family for the first time. But Rachel doesn't know that he and his very extended family are crazy rich.

We also meet the numerous family members of parents, aunts and uncles, countless cousins and their families and all their drama, mainly revolving around money. It's a world filled with "rich people problems". It's hilarious, overly extravagant, and it took me some time to get used to the million names, till I got a grasp on the most important ones at least, and I found myself really interested in all of the dramas of these family members, not just the story of Nick and Rachel. The perspective shifts a lot from one paragraph to another to show how several characters are interpreting the same scene which was an interesting choice, but proved very effective in later chapters.

I can clearly see how perfect it was for an adaptation, to show all the glamorous lives these people live. I wasn't even sure before reading if I'd the rest of the series, but now I'm really intrigued enough to read the 2nd and 3rd books. Also, I can't wait to watch the film.
