I found this to be rather interesting and a story that grabbed me just on the premise...three unlikely individuals - a military forensics expert, a priest and an archeologist are summoned to investigate the aftermath of an earthquake that hit Masada, Israel, revealing a long buried and forgotten tomb. It turns out that the tomb may have been home to a lost Gospel - written by Jesus, in his own blood. And from there things get "weird" and we learn that the story of the Christ may not be what we have always been lead to believe. Further, there are people... creatures that want the book as much as the Vatican does and the three must fight their way to recover the Gospel before the bad guys do... but who really is friend and foe?

Overall, I liked this book. It played on things that I have always liked... unique takes on vampires, Russian and Slavic history, biblical archeology (as I wanted to be one when I grew up) and just enough mystery. I could have done with out the overarching sexual tension between Erin, the archeologist, and Jordan, the military man, and the strange sexual tension Rhun, the priest, felt for Erin. Because seriously, just once I'd like to read a book or see a movie that has a man and a woman, both single, who have to work together NOT end up wanting to jump each other's bones.

This book also ended at just the right point to make me want to continue in the series to find out what happens next.
adventurous dark tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: N/A
Loveable characters: Yes

I couldn't even finish. Trite, formulaic, unoriginal, shallow, possibly some copyright infringement of other story lines. Juvenile trash.
adventurous challenging medium-paced

Occult action/adventure featuring some actual character individuation and development. I would have enjoyed it more as a stand alone; as the front cover says "The Order of the Sanguines Series" I kept looking for things that were being set up for the longer term and wondering if it was going to end mid-story (it doesn't, btw, the next adventure is set up but not begun). While I enjoyed it, I don't see myself waiting for the follow up. I've a feeling, it will fade from my memory rather quickly.

First I saw James Rollins name and the ominous title then I grabbed the book off the library shelf excited to read another Sigma Force novel. But as I stood there I noticed another author's name, Rebecca Cantrell, and pondered at what wound make Rollins write a Sigma Force novel jointly with another author. I didn't care. I was too caught up in my own glee to wonder too much.

It's not a Sigma Force novel.

At first I was shocked at the revelations made in this story, but soon I was intrigued. I was/am hooked. Now the wait begins for the follow up stories.

While I've never read a Cantrell novel, I like to imagine that I've read enough Rollins' novels to discern places where the authors' voices split. Of course I maybe wrong, but I kind of found myself making a game out of noticing these possible splits.

I did enjoy this novel, 90% of the time. I can say that even though there was a small percentage of the plot that irked me, I am still 100% interested in the follow up story. I am interested in the characters, the unraveling of the history and every characters' role in this journey. So now I anxiously and enthusiastically await the next novel in the series.

In the meantime, I will now read Rebecca Cantrell's novels to learn her voice and to see if I was correct, of course, in my speculation regarding places in the novel where the authors' voices split. Also, I am hoping to add Cantrell to my "favorite authors" list.

I finished this out of stubbornness. Flat, stereotyped characters, vampire tripe, ridiculous plot. Obvious attempt at capitalizing on the popularity of Da Vinci Code and Twilight.

This was a great start to a series. I am intrigued and will definitely move to the next book in the series. This book well read, but at times it got a bit confusing with the back and forth and I had to re-read passages again, other than that I enjoyed the book.

Vampires+Jesus=unreadable.

"Biblical references about knowledge and good and evil often get tangled up."

I bought this book for the cover. While I was in a Vampy mood.

I never expected to love this book so much to be honest after reading the synopsis. BUT Taking biblical references and mashing them with historical names that circled around the Vampire legends was just amazing!

We follow 3 characters. Cause you know 3 is a powerful number.

✝️Dr. Erin Granger who is at an archaeological dig when she is.... Persuaded to join a group of men after an earthquake has uncovered a tomb and a gas that kills all the tourists around it but one boy.

In the helicopter she mets a quiet priest of the Vatican

✝️Father Rhun Korza.... Look I can't really say much about him but he's hands down my faves and give me Paul Bettany vibes from Priest.
