With the Experiment in Terror show finding some success, amateur ghost hunters Perry Palomino and Dex Foray embark on their most terrifying investigation yet. A tiny, fog-shrouded island in the rough strait between British Columbia and Washington State has held a dark secret for decades: It was a former leper colony where over forty souls were left to rot, die and bury each other.

Now a functioning campground, Perry and Dex spend an isolated weekend there to investigate potential hauntings but as the duo quickly find out, there is more to fear on D’Arcy Island than just ghosts. The island quickly pits partner against partner, spiraling the pair into madness that serves to destroy their sanity, their relationship and their very lives.

DEAD SKY MORNING is by far my favourite EIT so far. Not only because it was straight up creepy - but it also takes place in my hometown of British Columbia! I always love reading books set in places I've been. However, I will definitely NOT be visiting D'Arcy Island anytime soon. Yikes.

The tension in this book was thick enough to cut with a knife and really added to the atmosphere of dread and confusion created by the island. Plus more #derry never hurt anyone...right? Halle hit it out of the park with this one and I can't wait to pick up book 4!

Dex is a bit of a douche in this one. And by "a bit" I mean "a major".

I really like Perry, but Dex is a douche bag extraordinaire. She just seems so young and vulnerable, and the age difference between them (among other things) immediately signals power imbalance to me. Those things definitely take away the swoonworthy factor for me. However, the scenes between them are great and if Dex weren't such an arse they would be awesome together.

The scary stuff is super creepy, Halle definitely sets up a great horror story.

Great price right now at the kindle store!

I will be honest and say I don't remember much because I started reading this 4 years ago and finished the last 40% this week. What I can say was that Dex and Perry get really close in this book they have to really put a lot of trust in each other. The Island they go to really fucks with them and tries to turn them against each other. They have to fight to keep true to what is real and what's not. Some secrets are revealed and to put it things are really starting to get going.

"Red sky morning, sailors take warning," he muttered, rolling over so his back was to me.
Red sky night, sailors delight, I thought"

this series is like a wonderful scary guilty pleasure of mine. The story is easy to fall back in to, no matter how long between books. And I always love Perry. She's funny and sassy and always herself.
And Dex is..well, Dex. I love reading about where they go, what they see. The secrets are killing me, but I love when each little bit is revealed one by one in the story.

I'm from Oregon, so it's a special treat to read all the little Oregon specific details in there.

This was a fucking rollercoaster, honestly what the fuck???

Also, I'm begging Karina Halle to stop making me suffer from Perry and Dex. Please stop. I'm actually getting annoyed because
Spoilerhe doesn't love Jenn, so what's the point of him being with her??? And then she was supposedly pregnant and then she WASN'T, so again what's the reason? And he cheated AGAIN. So please, tell me why is he still with her? Why so much masochism? I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

This book was even more creepier than the previous two. What I love most about this series is the pace of the story, and especially the pace of the character development. Because this is a series of nine books, the author can really take her time to really develop the characters as individuals and partners. Karina isn't rushing through anything, and that makes me enjoy the story so much more. Like I mentioned before I really love that romance is in the background and isn't the most essential part in the books. I loved learning about what happened on D’Arcy Island. Karina has a way of creeping me out, she did such a great job with this book.

Also Dex and Perry are very intriguing and complex characters. I really enjoy getting to know them better, and especially Dex, because the book is told completely from Perry's POV. So there were a couple of secrets told from both sides, and that made the bond between them stronger. They really care for each other, even though some ugly things were said in this book. At the end of the day, they can really depend on each other. Haven't read about such an awesome duo in a long time.

This is just a quickie review (see Janice's full review on the blog).

This was fantastic. They just keep getting better and better! Karina Halle upped the creepy factor all the way up to eleven and never let it drop. It also had a buttload of foreshadowing and questions raised for future books. As if I needed any further encouragement to devour them all! Pfft! It had lots of nice character development as well, although it was a bit of a test of my devotion to Dex at times. Still, I luuuurved it.

As a former big L.O.S.T. fan I adored the setting of D’Arcy Island and all the spooky goings on there. And the effects it had on both Dex and Perry's state of mind was harrowing yet fascinating to read.

Full house - Five Stars! ★★★★★
