Oh how I loved this one.

Precaution:
If you're looking for action or adventure, this is not the book for you.

This book is basically a handful of aliens who can't leave their current stop over. An accident with the satellites makes it impossible to enter or leave orbit.

So our three very different travellers, and the two owners of the Five-Hop have a lot of time to get to know each other.

I loved learning about the different cultures and just how actually alien and different these species are! No "humans, but in green", but really unique and divers and just all around fascinating characters. From very soft and furry to a hard shell, these have nothing in common, and on the other hand aren't so different after all...

Becky Chambers once more manages to create personalities that just had me spellbound from start to finish, even though there is (almost) no action or adventure at all to be found. Just learning their stories and seeing them interact and grow from the experience was as comforting as it was interesting!

Once again a book that touches on raw topics, but at the end leaves you with a smile, a sigh, and a warm heart.

A really strong entry to close out this series. I truly enjoyed the various interactions and dynamics between all the alien characters, which is definitely enough to carry the story whose plot is basically ‘“disaster leaves an unlikely bunch stranded together until they can learn to like/respect one another.” A delightful read with just enough tension and to lead to a satisfying, feel-good ending.

Side note: I find it interesting many people describe these books as standalone. They kind of are, but the context in each is so much richer if you’ve read all the books (though I’ll admit the third is, for me, the weakest and I would maybe skip if I revisit this series in the future).

Having had a mixed experience with the Wayfarers series so far, I was both excited and wary to read this book.

I loved all of the characters, they were so well written. Each had their own complex back story, goals and personality. Their interactions with each other were wonderful. It was great to see the links back to characters in the previous books too.

The world building is absolutely amazing in this series. Chambers has put so much thought into designing the different alien species and their cultures and how they would all interact with each other. The little details spread throughout the book are fascinating and everything is so well woven into the story that you are barely aware that you are learning about it all.

The plot of this book kept me interested throughout. At the start it had a bit of a cosy sci-fi feel, with not much going on but each of the characters learning about and bonding with each other. But it still has enough mysteries built in that you are always hooked waiting to find out the answers. The second half of the book becomes a bit more fast paced as things happen and we start to reach the resolutions.

The ending was so satisfying (with the exception of one character, but that was because of my own views, rather than anything to do with the writing - Chambers did it all very well), and really rounded off this wholesome story perfectly.

I loved spending time in this world and am sad to have reached the end of the series as I'd absolutely love to read more about these species.

I can’t believe I’ve finished the wayfarer series 😭😭😭 this book was just as beautiful as the rest, but the whole series was just so powerful. My favourite is still the 2nd one, but all four are beautiful, poignant yet hopeful stories about humanity (I’m using this word with reference to the aliens too because there is not an equivalent word that also encapsulates aliens with their own complicated feelings and histories :P). Thank you Becky Chambers for all the joy and emotion that these books have brought me over the last 3 years 💜
