Oh, Ms. Harris, why?
Why did you start a deliciously marvelous series and then completely abandon all pretense of trying to keep writing good literature?
Seriously, I love this series. I enjoy the characters. I usually enjoy the plots. Or at least, I have in the past. Each of the books in this series declines in quality, and this one was the worst by far. I mean, really, really, really, really, really bad, unfortunately, because I wanted to like it.

Loved this book, nonstop stressful plot, my only complaint was I was really mad it ended, really wanted more. Sad to hear there may only be two more in the series.
Well, that was a waste of time and e-ink.
The plot is paper thin and the writing even worse than usual.
On the bright side, there is only one cringe worthy sex scene. Small blessings and all that.

4 out of 5 stars. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either.
The Sookie series has been up and down for me. I found myself going through this book quickly and enjoying it for the most part, but I did skip a bit of detail that I know I didn't care about. I didn't care about the town gossip, or the baby shower, or whatever squabbles the inhabitants were getting into, I also didn't care about the big fight at the end, so I skipped those. Dead Reckoning was fairly dialogue heavy and that helped the reading go by fast as well, but the shocking revelations that the jacket promised were not delivered. There were a few new details, but I didn't find them amazing in any way. I think the books are written in such a way that they aren't bad, but they also aren't really good. I don't love any of the characters, I don't really care what happens to the southern town in question, and I don't care how biased people feel about the "two-natured." That all makes me wonder why I continue to read this series, and I really think it's just because they are easy reads, and at book 11 I feel I've invested so much I might as well get my money's worth.
This book was much better than the last one! Just got the book yesterday and I finished it tonight. Can not wait for the next book in the series to come out so I can find out what happens!
This was a much better book than the last few in the series. There was much more action and resolution of problems. I am excited to see what the last two books hold.
