I think Charlaine Harris might be getting bored of writing these. This one seemed to have nearly the same forgettable plot as the last one. Very little new to offer to the series. I paid full price for this one too. Quick read, below average story. Three stars just because I do enjoy the characters. Looking forward to the new season of True Blood.
The series can't be considered high literature in the least, and the writer does have some issues with being repetitive. However, the leading lady isn't weak-kneed and waiting for someone to rescue her, and the series is highly addicting. I'd recommend it for time-killing reading, but it's not a must-read on my list.
Seriously? What the hell happened?
Dead Reckoning is a complete fail.
These books used to be awesome reads. Sure, these books are by no means great literature, but they used to be excellent vampire/paranormal/mystery fluff.
Eric used to be swoon-worthy. The storylines used to be entertaining. Sookie used to possess a bit of a backbone. The earlier books actually kept my attention.
Dead Reckoning was a complete snoozefest. Seriously, I fell asleep reading this book. I was that bored.
Sookie was cleaning something on every other page of this book. She wiped down her kitchen countertops over and over again. She told us about her two new pairs of shorts she bought at Walmart. She described her house in excessive detail several times, and it's not like we haven't heard about it in the 10 other books!
And... Sookie was preachy! I mean really... you want to tell me all about your good "Christian" morals and then go have incredibly boring monkey sex (WHAT THE HELL WAS WITH THE ICE PACK?) while plotting how to kill a bunch of vamps?
I mean really, what the eff was wrong with Sookie? She seemed to be growing as a person (just a wee bit, maybe?) in some of the middle books, but now she's back to her judgmental "Christian" ways. I was so glad when Eric called her out on it.
I think Charlaine Harris may be setting us up for a Sookie relationship that doesn't involve a vampire. I have to wonder if it will be with Sam, since he seemed sorta freaked out by Jannalynn towards the end of the book. And... at this point I'm all for it, because Eric was a whiny jackass in this book. And... don't even get me started on Pam. I love Pam, but she's turning into TV show Pam. Hell, all of the characters are turning into their tv show counterparts! That might be fine if there weren't 9 other books where these character are nothing like their characters on TrueBlood.
*sigh*
Can you tell I'm disappointed?

I'll keep reading simply because I want to know what's going to happen. However, I wont be rushing out to buy a copy of the next book.

I was disappointed in this Sookie Stackhouse novel. I felt like it was almost the same as the previous Sookie books I had read, and didn't really go anywhere. It did have some action, after all there was a fairly epic battle at the end of the book, but none of Sookie's relationship "stuff" got worked out, everything with the fae is still confusing, and...overall, it just felt like the same story as the last one. I wasn't a huge fan of this series, so I'll give the next book a shot, but if it doesn't get a little more interesting, I'm done.
For some reason I though this was the second book in the series so I was a little lost. My own fault.

Another exhausting outing by Charlaine Harris. Poor Sookie Stackhouse gets sadder and angrier with each book. This one has more than its share of deadly encounters and evildoers, but Sookie gets some answers about her surprising Fairy antecedents and her telepathic gift.
Sookie has to cope with a deadly adversary's attempts to kill her; her witch friend Amelia turning up to break Sookie's blood bond with vampire Eric; her two fairy relatives being underfoot and keeping secrets from her; local pack leader Alcide coercing her into a one-night-stand as their shaman; and plan a vampire assassination and a baby shower at the same time...
I'm winding closer to this series' bloody conclusion. I thought I had just one more book to read, but just found there is a number 13. (sigh) On to number 12.

Meh. On par with the weaker books of the series. There were so many scenes that could have been cut. Is it moving the plot along? No? Then cut it.
I liked the end. I felt that the next book is going to be big, but I think there are still two books to go, so what do I know?

Disappointed with this book. Sookie seems to be everybody’s whipping boy. She has nothing good happen to her (except escaping assassins). I didn’t like her breaking the bond with Eric and then find out he has to marry the Queen of Oklahoma. Sookie needs somebody who is going to stick by her no matter what. I’m tired of seeing her being dumped and beaten up by thugs. I did like the background on her grandma and fairy grandfather. I just found the story depressing, may have just been my perspective.
