This was much better than the last Sookie Stackhouse book (I'm sorry, but when it's a mystery and you don't give your readers clues as to the culprit or their motive and then just suddenly spring the bad guy in the last few pages, it's not cool), but still I'm getting tired of these books. Harris sometimes provides too many details (is it really important that I know that Sookie's nice suit is from Stage, especially given that many people in the country would not know what Stage was let alone care enough to find out?) and it feels as if this series is ready to be ended. I still love Eric and Pam and even Sookie (sometimes) but I'm pretty tired of the series as a whole. I just keep reading to see if maybe she'll surprise me and do something interesting with it; so far I've been disappointed.
Another delicious installment. I'm just sad that I'm finished with it already.:-( You know the plot has BEEN getting pretty "thick" for more than a few books now. I think I'm ready for a slight settling down of the crazy action/conflict/multi-character-introducing-and-killing-off part of the series and a little amping back up of the steamy vampire/were romance part for my girl Sookie. I want romantic drama and sexual tension and rivalries ot take center stage again. While it was super-hot at first, Eric and Sookie have definitely cooled off and I'm losing interest fast. I want some Bill action or SAM! WHEN is Sam going to get to make his move?! And that whole thing with Alcide was like a cruel tease in this last book, Ms. Harris. Shame, shame, and bad form. Still can't wait for the next one. I can't believe I'm ELEVEN books into a series. I usually hate for series to carry on for more than 3 to four books and lose interest once the story goes so far, but I just can't get enough of this one. I think I'll be truly distaught when it's over.
Why do series writers not know when to stop? Stop! Stop! Stop! While we still like you enough to buy future books unrelated to the series you've killed. Please stop taking advantage of my devotion. I may never read you again if you keep this up. Oh and yes, I get it-- he's just like Jason, but not. how many words must you waste to say that? Filler, filler, filler. Yes I realize the author won't read this, just venting.
It's getting harder and harder to like this series and the characters. I feel the characters are just as inscrutable as they were in the beginning and have not developed at all. The plot feels like it's been purposefully dragged out to sell more books. As ridiculous as the TV adaptation has gotten, I feel like it has a better grasp on who these characters are and why they do the things they do.
A lot of people seems to dislike this book. I found it really interesting especially since the last two haven't been so well done in my opinion. I'm starting the next one soon :)
I enjoyed this installment in the series. Sookie's fae relatives are a sneeky bunch.
Oh noes! There's trouble in the land of Eric/Sookie! I don't think I like this turn of events even though I know that if things were all hunkey-dorey we'd all be bored to tears. But still, I think it's the kind of trouble that bothers me. I could understand her uncertainty over whether Eric actually loved her or only thought he loved her because of the fae in her and the bond. That's a normal relationship uncertainty that could come up. But another woman?? Seriously? I didn't like that. Eric had better find a way to get the Queen of Oklahoma off his back and stay with Sookie.
Also, I loved Bill's subtle reaction when Sookie told him about Eric's being promised to someone by his maker.
The Cluviel Dor is really a mysterious object. I wonder when and how Sookie will end up using up th one wish she gets from it.
So glad the Sandra Pelt issue is off the table.
So glad the Victor issue is off the table. However, I know there will be some fallout from this assassination in the next book. There has to be.
Something I didn't understand was why Alcide was in this book at all. He didn't fit in with the storyline this time and it kind of felt like he was just tossed in there to make an ass out of himself and embarrass Sookie... for no good reason.
I felt so bad for Pam in this book. We really got to see a softer more emotional side of her and I liked that. She's become one of my favorite characters.
I like that Sookie gave Sam the money to help with the bills for Merlotte's. Hopeful that the bar won't go under just cause of all the Supe stuff.
The history of Sookie's family on the fae side is well thought out. I'm glad Sookie finally got some answers from Mr. Cataliades.
Oh! Know who else is growing on me? Dermot. He just gets more and more likable.
Had some speed bumps but overall it was a good book.

I'm fresh out of Sookie. This is probably a good thing because I don't know how much more I can take at the moment. How many times in one book does Harris have to explain who Bubba is and how he came to be there? By book 11, if you don't know who Bubba is you probably haven't been paying any attention.
So what happens in this one? Sookie gets attacked from all directions again, has murder plots and feels bad about them, decides to commit murders anyway. This is more of the same, but realistically it's a lot of rutting so that we can better understand the world of the fae. With probably only two more Sookies in her, Harris will have to tighten her focus. These books need to be more than readable, but that's probably too much to expect from an author who refers to her main character's vagina as her "yahoo palace".

The story was interesting overall, but the character voices seemed off and it was kind of a shitty cliffhanger ending. I hate to say it, but I'm almost starting to like the show better. Almost.
