This definitely felt like a "tying up loose ends" sort of book before the Next Big Thing happens. It also seemed like Charlaine Harris knew she didn't really have that much story to tell, and filled up a lot of pages with things like Sookie's hair, cleaning abilities, and questioning of being a "Good Christian." I appreciated some of the fae stuff and learning more of Sookie's background, but there was a bit too much filler and nowhere near enough Eric/Sookie time. Still, though, I can see where this will serve well as a set-up for Book 12, whatever & whenever it is. Also, as always, I adore Pam. Every book needs more Pam. :)
This felt like a much darker, more grown-up entry to Sookie's story and actually left me feeling a little down and sad for the poor girl.
Again, some questions were answered - some - but there's a whole bunch more that will (hopefully!) have to be resolved in the penultimate chapter in Sookie's story... Can't wait!

What I Did Like:
+The action scene is well written. You can easily picture it, you understand what was happening, and you’re on the edge of your seat during it.
+The finding of the portal and the artifact have potential for future books. If they’re explored more, they could add a depth to this series that is seriously lacking right now.
+Like the rest of this series, the book moves quickly and is a fast read.
Who Should Read This One:
-Fans of the series are the only ones still sticking around for these later series books at this point, I’m convinced.
My Rating: 2 Stars
This one lacks the punch of the previous books and falls back on using random spicy scenes in order to try and keep readers enthralled.
