SEP was one of the first romance writers I ever read, and I love her Chicago Stars books (in spite of my complete disinterest in sports).

It's been a while, though, and entering into that world again it feels a bit vanilla compared to many of the contemporary romance authors I love, like Talia Hibbert and Ali Hazelwood. Both in lack of diversity, and lack of realism--still focused on the so-perfect-they're-barely-human style of character development, they have "flaws" like being a bit standoffish, or acting a little jealous, but their physical perfection is never in doubt. Still, fun to read how these paragons of human perfection clash and crash.

I'd love the next entry in the Chicago Stars series to be about something a little different, though... What about a gay football player who falls for one of his teammates--or better, one of his opponents?

A little slow in the beginning but it got better

Sometimes I'll stick with a romance where the characterization is sloppy and the plot is utterly nonsensical in the hopes that at least the sex scenes will be hot. This book couldn't even deliver on that front.
