Sydney was such a relatable main character—she’s got her life together on paper, but like so many of us, she’s still trying to figure out love. Her relationship with Tom starts off like a literal dream, but the cracks start showing fast. The twists? Constant. The pacing? Fast and addicting. And just when I thought I had things figured out, Freida flipped it on me. She really knows how to mess with your head.
If you’re even thinking about dipping into thrillers, start here. It’s super readable, twisty without being confusing, and full of those “WAIT, WHAT?!” moments that make you want to text someone immediately. Even if you’re not a thriller girlie—you might be after this one.

I’m generally very good at picking up on twists in stories. But this book had me led by the nose the entire story, until the final twist grabbed me by the throat. The pacing was relentlessly fast, and while there was some amount of “oh my gosh why are you so dumb” on the part of the main character, the conclusion to the story was so surprising and satisfying that I had to give it 5 stars.
And honestly, I love
After reading a massive chunk of fantasy and sci fi series, this thriller standalone was a needed and welcome break. I would definitely read more of the author’s work.

Sydney asked Jake if he had heard of Cynch when he was questioning her. A chapter or two later, we learn Sydney and Jake met years ago on Cynch? So many little details & holes. In true fashion from this author, the ending had a few little twists. This was definitely not one of my Freida favourites.
