I REALLY liked this one!

Tenderness, love, tender love. Queer, Nigerian, partly set in Canada, right up my alley I don't know what took me so long to start reading it. Loved how it explored the different family dynamics, loved the narrative. Felt that the novel could've explored the mother, Kambirinachi's story more. Ogbanje stuff felt a little surface level, one-dimensional.
SpoilerReally just a ghost at the will of her kin. Maybe that's intentional, but I wanted more from kambi (her daughters also wanted more lol)

I might try one of the recipes described in the novel, I wonder how successful that'll be. Still don't get the title that much, but this book is highly recommended.

This is such a beautifully told story. Ekwuyasi weaves a tale full of love, sadness, loneliness, loss, trauma, longing, and family all told through the stories of twin sisters Kehinde and Taiye and their mother, Kambirinachi. Even the narrative style gives a different depth to each of the main characters. I really felt like how their stories were being told related in some ways to how each of the women felt and were allowing their feelings to surface.

I loved seeing the line between traditional beliefs and scientific ones, this is a depiction of how mental illness can actually affect more things than you imagine.

Stellar read tbvh.
