Erm. Can't really say how much I disliked this book. Reading romantic novels is really quite the risky business nowadays, either it's heart-pounding good or it's really horrifyingly bad. I felt that with this sparkly, feminist and somewhat cute packaging of guys reading old, out-dated romantic novels would be a nice plot, but it's just a smart deception of a book that lets the old world'd outdated look on how men and women should be run rampage throughout. I really disliked the two main characters and found their actions to be incredibly unsympathetic. It's just a really terrible use of time when they could've just communicated about these issues and not have wasted a whole bunch of paper.

Aviso de que puede haber pequeños spoilers en la reseña, aunque creo que a estas alturas todas sabemos cómo acaban las comedias románticas

Goodness gracious alive, I hated this.

This book would have been INFINITELY better if the story had been about Gavin trying to win Thea back, realizing their relationship wasn't healthy for either of them, and deciding to go through with the divorce so he could move on. Because as I just mentioned, this relationship was toxic as fuck and they should NOT have gotten back together.

I'm not going to go into a full rant because, honestly, I don't have the energy nor the patience to rant for pages on end, so here's the cliffnotes version:

-Gavin was a clueless, selfish asshole who was barely redeemable at the end, but made so much stupid as fuck decisions that I couldn't be fucked to care about his development.

-Thea was combative, stubborn, mean-spirited, and annoying. As with Gavin, she got some development towards the end but the damage was already done.

-Liv needed to BACK THE FUCK OFF and let the two GROWN ASS ADULTS handle their problems on their own. She was also one of the worst kinds of pseudo-feminism, where she hates men because their mere existence is an unpardonable sin (yes, I know her backstory explains why, but that doesn't give her the right to be an obnoxious man-hater).

-I didn't really care about the other guys, they were mostly alright. Except for Mack, I wanted to punch him in the teeth.

-The writing was substandard and non-engaging. It served its purpose and that's it.

-While there were a lot of interesting themes/ concepts that were brought up, most of them were either handled poorly or were surface level at best.

-The relationship was toxic, there was no reason for me to root for these two reconciling because they were both the absolute WORST, and I hate that they eventually reconciled. Shit like this gives romance novels a bad name and that breaks my heart more than anything.

And that's basically it. I hated this, but I promised someone I'd read the other books (because I can't say no and I hate myself apparently) so I'll be reading more of this shit. But aside from my own poor life choices, I would not recommend this book to anyone, romance fan or not. It's not worth your time, patience, or sanity.

THIS is what boys will be boys means. Such a well written, cute book. I love this whole idea. Yes it leans into all rom-com tropes but that's the point and the author has fun with it. 4 stars!
