Fox
Hel's Ink # 1
By: DJ Krimmer
Narrated by: Paige Reisenfeld, Christian Leatherman
There is something about finding a new author that is so refreshing! DJ Krimmer is new to me, and this book of hers will definitely not be my last! The characters are engaging and true to life, and made me feel right at home in the tattoo shop! Janie is back after the death of her father. Little did she know he was putting a caveat in his will regarding the shop that would make her stay for the next year. Fox did not know about this either, thinking he would be the new owner, ready to move on. Now the two are bumping heads, fighting and constantly at each other's throats. Is it the age gap? Is it the fight over the tattoo shop? Who is in control? Is there more here than meets the eye? Janie is a firecracker, and her sharp tongue can cut deep. But there is more to her than meets the eye. No longer a little girl, she is ready to take control of her life and follow her true dreams. Fox is a bit set in his ways. This spunky woman is not what he was expecting in his life, and boy does he have some juggling to do! Passionate, grief, finding a new normal, realizing what is important in life, so much packed into this wonderfully written story. I hope book two is coming out on audio, I will be ready!
Paige Reisenfeld and Christian Leatherman give a fabulous performance bringing this story to life. I was captivated from the start. Reisenfeld is spunky and vulnerable, determined and passionate throughout her performance. Leatherman is grumpy, yet a huge teddy bear, easy to feel his compassionate side. Loved this team, I thought they worked well together and created a realistic couple to root for.

Loved the reality of this book! The characters are likable and seem like real people. Very easy read and good spice.
Honestly knew how it will end at the beginning. Nit for me right now.

Fox(43 years old) papa fox and Janie(26) Torch, babydoll
It starts at Tony’s funeral. Tony was the owner of Hels ink where Fox works at. Him and the other artists have been on a bender since he passed. At the funeral they see his daughter Janie, who Fox has never gotten along with and he calls the red head, torch. A few days later they’re sent to meet to sign paperwork for Fox to buy the shop from Janie but she tells him actually she’s not signing and Fox is in shock, she doesn’t want the shop. What he doesn’t know is Janie overheard him and atlas talking about her. She doesn’t want the shop but she was also hurt to hear the way they talk about her. She has realized she’s turned herself into a faker for social media and she’s the loneliest she’s ever been and she has no one. We also find out the reason she hates fox is because when he came into her dads shop her dad took him under his wing and took away any of the time she ever had with her dad. Her dad was so swept away with his shop and she was put on the back burner so she indulged herself with social media. We also find out Janie has essential tremors and her medication helps but the only person who knows about them is her and her dad had known. At the shop Janie has mainly been running the counter but she’s still been driving Fox mad. She canceled his ink shipment and changed it to an ink that’s trendier right now. A man comes in wanting his girlfriends name tattooed and they explain they don’t do that and the man gets vulgar with Janie and she rushes to the back room. Fox steps in and chases the man out and goes to find Janie. She accidentally spilled the last of his good ink and she’s Shaking badly. He tries to calm her down and she confesses that no one knows but she has essential tremors and when she gets worked up they won’t stop. He respects her and tells her they are no one’s business. And then her boyfriend Brody shows up and Fox decides he doesn’t like him at all. The next day Janie brings donuts for everyone and proposes she start a social media account for the shop and Fox shuts her down and she goes to her dads office and cries. Fox goes back to check on her and she lashes out on him and tells him she overheard him and she was going to sign the shop over because she knew he would keep it thriving but then she tells him the logo is hers and the shops name is hers and she explains her name is Jamie Hel Pierce. Hels ink is named after her. And she tells him he can join in or she will buy him out of the shop at the end of the year and those are his options. He yells at her and tells her he was more of a son to Tony than she ever was and the next thing ya know they’re making out and he has her slammed against the wall and he’s kissing her breasts and then they hear the front door alarm go off and she takes off. Janie calls Brody to appologize and tell him and she finds out he’s been sleeping with other people the whole time and that they aren’t exclusive. She asks one of her influencer friends to meet her at the donut shop and the girl tells her there are no real friends and to not do this again. And then the worker of the donut shop Stevie comes and talks to her and they exchange numbers and she feels like she made her first real friend. The guys start to miss her at the shop and then Stevie shows up and brings them donuts thinking that Janie would be there when she requested them. And Fox realizes he owes her an apology. It’s her 26 birthday and Brody begs her to go out with him and how sorry he is and she agrees. She gets all dolled up and then he stands her up and the guys show her a video of Royce giving him a lap dance and she realizes she’s been humiliated. Lauren was there getting tattooed and demands for them all to go out for drinks and Janie agrees. At the bar her and Lauren go out to dance and a man tries to force her onto him and she says she’s with Lauren and he says he’s not a chubby chaser, asshole. And then Fox is there and atlas and ash. Fox gets the man off her and then she goes to the alley to throw up and he holds her hair back for her. He took everyone home and the next day he met Liza who was Tony’s girlfriend and she wanted to boohoo to him but he didn’t want to hear it. He ordered coffee and donuts from Stevie to take back to Janie and the boys, Lauren was already gone, she can out drink all of them and function. After ash and Atlas leave here goes in and finds Janie crying and she confesses she has to go and get her dads ashes and she’s not ready for that and asks if they can call a truce because she has no one and he agrees. He takes her and on the way she finds out Brody turned everything on her and they’re making her look like the bad guy online. She breaks down at the crematory and Fox makes all the decisions. They leave and she won’t let go of her dads box. She wakes up at foxes after he says he shook her for 10 minutes while she was hysterical. She asks why they’re at his house and not hers and she doesn’t even remember stopping at her house but Fox tells her there was a mob of people there. He doesn’t tell her they were all waving signs to slut shame her and he was pissed. He holds her through the whole night. The next day he’s sick. And they switch roles. Janie begins to take care of him. She gets him cough medicine and holds him while he sleeps and she realizes this man has probably been lonely for a long time too. And then she slips up at the shop to atlas that she had been rubbing Fox head for comfort and knows Fox is going to kill her. Janie finds Fox crying outside and he admits he was thinking about his mom and sister and we find out he had an abusive dad and he was trying to get them out of it when they were hit and killed by an overworked man who was driving tired. Janie comforts him. They have a cookout to celebrate lauren getting her first lawyer job. And atlas makes a comment about putting tinder on fox’s phone and it upsets Janie and she goes inside. Fox throws a fan at atlas knee cap. Atlas is upset because Lauren’s upset with him and we know she has a tinder profile. The girls come outside and say Janie got a death threat and she’s scared and shaking. Janie finally told everyone about her condition. He goes inside and tells her he’ll keep her safe and they end up kissing and she pushes it farther and he tells her no and pushes her away. At the shop his tinder notification goes off. And she had also turned a girl away that had shown up at the shop. She’s upset about it. They end up fighting and she tells him he can have the shop and he calls her a selfish brat and she tells him all she ever wanted was this shop and after she got the tremors she can’t be an artist and her dad wouldn’t let her do her social media thing, he didn’t want her there. And then they’re latched onto eachother and they have sex for the first time in the tattoo shop and he ate her out for her first time before. Him and the boys are going to an event in Nevada and she can’t go because she’s doing a meet and greet. He deleted tinder off his phone. He realizes he should have paid attention to her marketing ideas. They look like a bunch of old dudes and are totally unprepared. Liza tried to sucker him into going back to her hotel room and he has a flashback to when his dad called him unlovable and she had been there and sucked him off and she brings that up again and it has him thinking about Janie. And he worries about her catching feelings for him and him not being able to reciprocate. He ends up on a FaceTime with her where Lauren confesses that Janie got attacked when she went back to her apartment and he’s prepared to come home but she threatens his tattoo machine Vanessa and to only order him vegan ink. She goes to the meet and greet and has drinks thrown at her so she has Ren and Stevie come to get her and while they’re on the way she calls Fox crying and says she needs a hug and he says he’s getting on the first flight. She has the girls take her back to his place so she’s there when he gets home and she jumps into his arms. His ac goes out so he takes her to ash and atlas place with a pool and finds out she doesn’t know how to swim so he helps her and she asks him to kiss her and he won’t so she’s ready to go she’s tired of the rejection. On the way home he almost hits a cat but she stops him and tells him she’s keeping her little Winston so they go to the pet store and buy all the things and he tells her that her and the cat can stay even though he doesn’t do pets. It’s just that he doesn’t do commitment with things that can hurt him. He brings her home a tablet and tells her he thought she might miss drawing and this might be more forgiving for her and she starts to kiss him and he turns her away and he tells her it’s because he can’t be her boyfriend and it seems like they’re tiptoeing into boyfriend territory. And then Ren calls so she goes there and Ren had a bad tinder date and the fiancé hit her so she stays the night with her and the next morning they go to a pole dancing class where she meets Sunday. And Sunday suggests she take their gay pole dancer Luca as her date to the Celebration of life for her dad to make Fox jealous. She removes all her things from his house and Winston and they’re staying with Stevie. When he sees her with Luca he is so pissed. But he’s in the bathroom when she comes in and says you put my drawings on my dads urn and then she’s kissing him and they have sex in the bathroom and he begs her to bring his cat son with her home so they can talk and she agrees. He found out his dad beat his mom so bad she was hospitalized and begged them to come and he would have drove to get them but he didn’t know and they were hit by a truck on their way to him. And at their funeral his dad beat him within an inch of his life saying he was the reason he lost his family and put his cigarette out on his chest. And he has always felt unlovable and that he would hurt anyone he did ever dare to let close and that’s why he never had an animal either. And she asks what now and he says are you sure you want to try the boyfriend girlfriend thing with this old fart and she says yes and then he kisses her softly. They go on their first technical date to a carnival and she has a blast. Fox is letting her try some of her ideas and they’re going great. She made the boys do a photoshoot and she’s changing their shirts to one of her designs and the pre order sold out. Things have been great between Fox and Janie and she knows she’s falling in love with him. Fox and atlas have a heart to heart and atlas mentions love and fox shuts down and says he can’t love her and then brings up Ren who has a bf. And we know he’s not good for her and it’s messy. This is an age gap romance where the male love interest knew her as a child (yuck). Their relationship left much to be desired because they constantly kept going back and forth. Much more character development was needed.
