As the mutant with no memory of who he was but with the adamantium skeleton and claws, there's a reason that Wolverine was the character chosen to draw the audience into the world of the X-Men in the 2000 movie of the same name, as well as being a key player in virtually all the X-Men movies to date (skipping, say, 'First Class').

He's also the first - and, to date, only X-Men mutant (I'm not counting Deadpool as belonging to the X-Men) to get his own solo movie in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. A movie that I'm not sure whether was released before or after (or at the same time, even?) as this collection of stories.

But there sure is a lot of similarities in the early portion of that film, and with when this is set and the events that take place within it ...

edit: I've just discovered that this was released first (2001-02), with the movie in 2009. Guess I know now where the early part of the plot came from!

Cool insights on the evolution of Logan's personality and various names' and their origin. We saw Logan grow up from a shy, weak child to the strong leader he is at the end of the book.

Before Fox could create Wolverine’s origin story, Marvel decided to jump in and tell it how it is. James and Rose live on an estate in Canada until an incident forces them on the run. After reaching the frontier in Canada, James changes his name among other things.

Origin was amazing.

I loved the artwork. I could hang the artwork around my place, especially when Logan is running around with the wolves.

It was great learning the beginning of Wolverine through the graphic novel. If I hadn’t of borrowed this from the library then I would still think it is how the movie represents it. I have to say that I am beginning to agree with my partner that Fox does a better job of following the comic books than what the Marvel Cinematic Universe does.

My recommendation: begin your Wolverine experience with this collection of comic books.

I borrowed this book from our local library.

This is a masterpiece. This story delves into Wolverine's past, and how he went from being Logan to becoming The Wolverine. It's not pretty. It's not humane. It's brutal. It's violent. It's dehumanizing. It is glorious. Barry Windsor-Smith is a master at his craft, and we are delving into the depths of human depravity, where we believe others are less than we are, and we brutally set them to tasks as if they were not human. It is gritty. It is gory. When a couple of critics said that Barry Windsor-Smith draws the best naked X-Men, they were telling the truth. Logan is like a Greco-Roman statue. This story delves into slavery. Ownership. Unreliable narration. The depths of human behavior. Animal instinct. Brutality. This is an experience, and you owe it to yourself to read it start to finish. Logan is kidnapped and placed in a lab as part of an experiment. They don't seem to know that he's homo superior and has regenerative powers. They bond adamantium to his skeleton, and rewire his neural net to obey their commands. The problem is... what if they aren't in complete control?
