Nice historical fiction with well developed characters.
fast-paced

This was my first Elin Hilderbrand read and let me just say…it was torturous. This book was SO slow and unmoving for the first 200 pages and I had to force myself to continue reading. I almost gave up with reading this book 10 times (no exaggeration). The story does pick up towards the second half of the book but it wasn’t enough to save my rating. One good thing I can say about this book is that Hilderbrand does a beautiful job of writing real events as if they were completely made up. I’m usually not a fan of historical fiction but this story uses it really well.

Such an enjoyable read...loved the story line, setting and characters. I was not a fan of the final pages, but that's just my personal bias creeping in.

3.5 stars

Really enjoyed the narrative structure and learning more about that period of American history; I found the characters likable and sympathetic.

I loved following the story of the Summer of ‘69 through the eyes of each member of the family. Fun little twists and turns along the way kept me turning the pages. A great summer read!

Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Decent character development - as for as story lines, they were fine but not great. Felt almost unnatural to try to cram every 1969 experience into one summer and one family. I was skipping ahead at the end because the story lines were fairly obvious, and I was ready to wrap it up.
