I have yet to read an Elin book I didn’t thoroughly enjoy and devour. While most are set on Nantucket, each of the 5 I’ve read are completely different and unique concepts. Love the little side characters throughout each of her books as well. Big fan of the historical fiction element of this specific novel; the Vietnam War, moon landing, racism, Woodstock, gender roles, anti-Semitism, and the Chappaquiddick incident are all beautifully tied together, along with some good old fashioned family dynamics.

I’m rather new to the world of Elin Hilderbrand, the only other book of hers I have read was Winter Street, so this is the first of her beach reads I’ve enjoyed & I really loved it! The scenery was a delight, the constant food references also helped set a delicious scene & the family dynamics + individual storylines had me hooked!! Loved the historical fiction + drama!!

Listened would.have given it 3'5

An entertaining drama about a Massachusetts family in Cape Cod in the summer of 1969 wrestling with the Vietnam War, feminism, the Kennedy, and the moon landing.

"Summer of '69" was a mixed bag. While the story was enjoyable and some historical elements were refreshing, yet the plot development was predictable. The problem with the "chick lit" genre, to me, was the abundance of drama and these drama hardly anything insightful. Reading it to kill time, sure it wasn't a bad choice but there are certainly better books to read. My sentiment was mostly based on my lukewarm interest in the genre. The book itself was well written but it just wasn't my cup of tea. :)

My first book of the author and I know she is one of the popular choices among readers. I might pick up other titles by the author but only when I feel like reading another chick lit book.

This one seemed a bit more predictable than other books I have read by this author. I enjoyed reading the historical events of the year I was born.

very meh. enjoyable and easy, follow a few characters through a couple months.
