I became so easily invested in this book, Keri knows how to beautifully weave her words to make the most haunting, dark, gothic, and visceral world. It felt very real and I loved every second of it. The atmosphere was very much paranormal and dark as described. Being in Nightshade with lost souls, all the different biblical creatures was creepyyyy.
The dual timelines is by far one of my favorite parts of this book. I don’t always love dual timelines, as sometimes you get too much information from one and not enough in the other, or it’s not really exciting because there isn’t enough details to connect the two or know why you’re getting both. Not this book, it was the PERFECT amount from both timelines. Each time you switched from characters/time you got just enough more information to start connecting dots. You understood how they connected, but you were left with more and more questions. The plot line, of religious heretics, angels/demons and much more, and the ‘cursed’ one, is something that’s very new and enjoyable from start to finish.
