I had extremely high hopes for this book. I was excited and fascinated for the premise—a psychic tells everyone how they are going to die. But the constant changing between characters each chapter made this book hard to read and remember. There are too many characters/point of views to do this literary mechanic. On top of that, having Cherry's PoV for every other chapter, was (1) too much Cherry and (2) made it harder to remember all the other character's stories and arcs. Plus, their stories were not that exciting or interesting.

This book is very long. And you would think that by the half or even 2/3 of the book, that the plot is really getting interesting that you cannot put the book down. But that was not the case. It was grueling to keep pushing through. If this was not for book club, I would have stopped reading.

I am disappointed because I really wanted to like this book. But I found all the characters not relatable, and again, too much Cherry. So much of her backstory could have been edited out. I really did not need to know her full life story. Also, the audio book of her chapters were baaaaaaaaaad. It was easier to read than listen.

Also, especially toward the end, there were too many coincidences/connections. What was the point? Just having a nice little wrap up of the story? A plot that was barely there? I do not understand how this book was rated highly by people.

This book could have been improved by having the characters have a more diverse reaction to knowing when they would die. Instead, all of them only denied it and continued living on, making a few changes or navigating that. I wanted characters to fully accept it and live fully, or to believe they were invincible, etc.

There were too many unrelatable moments too. "The point of social media is to make others feel bad" what?

One last thing, all the characters calling Allegra beautiful whenever she was mentioned was weird and redundant to me. It felt like the author was trying to make a statement, that brown people can be beautiful, which yes obviously, but I think she really overdid it.

Just like a prediction straight from the book, this came to me at the perfect time. I lost my dog earlier this month and while going through the grief of that, I found this book randomly. It wasn't in my TBR. I hadn't heard of it before I picked it. I just looked at a list of books a random internet person posted and went with this one. This book had me locked in from the moment I picked it up. I've never read a 500 page book this fast. To be honest, I was trying to meet a personal deadline, but I didn't ever feel like I wouldn't meet that deadline because the book held me captive. It was intense throughout and I was just waiting to see what would happen with every chapter. I'll probably read this one again. Definitely recommend.
