This series should have ended book 3 and I definitely only read this so I could find out the ending. The authors seemed like they ran out of ideas early on in the series and dragged it out because they were forced too. As someone who loves middle grade, I recommend checking out other things first. (Also both authors have woks that are much better)
I was a little disappointed by the beginning of this final book in the series, thinking it was going to be a lackluster wrap up. I should never have doubted Holly Black and Cassandra Clare, even for a minute! With a couple of unexpected twists, this book takes readers on a non-stop adventure while tying up any loose ends from the first four books. Thankfully, it also leaves hope for a second series ! Highly recommended for grades 4 and up. Must read the series in order!!
It’s the final part of the series so we assume, rightly or wrongly, that things will be resolved.
Described as the final, thrilling instalment I think it probably is for younger readers. There’s a real sense with this series of it trying to slot into the gap left by Harry Potter and there were some elements that, as an adult, I would have liked to be more developed. Personal taste aside, there is no doubt that this is a fitting end to events.
Having done his best to save the Magisterium, Call remains under suspicion. Having done his best to fight Alex and his past, Call finds himself wondering what else he has to do to prove his loyalty. Having to do this alone is a big ask, but having to do it when everyone around you is convinced you are Evil makes it tougher.
When Call returns for his final year he has Arron in his head. He can’t let anyone know what he’s done, but his actions are hugely important for fighting Alex Strike. Determined to get through this year - and move some relationships forward - Call is placed in another difficult situation.
Increasingly this felt rushed. Everything happened at breakneck speed and with little regard for credibility of characters. That aside, it went as you’d hoped and the ending was suitably positive to keep people happy.

My heart. So pure. 😭
I’m sad this series is over, but it had an amazing ending and my heart just couldn’t take it.

this is the last book of the magisterium series.
though callum has already fought so much evil, it just seems to keep coming back to him. will he and his friends finally escape evil and the condemnation of other magicians?
i thought this was a great final book!! i loved all the action and character interactions. i also really liked the final sentence, which is really important to tying a book together. if you enjoyed the other books in this series and haven’t read this one yet, i highly recommend doing so!
