What a well written horribly not nice story.
Well written, couldn't put it down. Opened it one night, then got distracted on the first page. Next time I picked up the book I couldn't stop until the end.

I think I'm just in a place where I don't need more evil in my world.
That said, 4 1/2 stars. Ha.

This made me survive my reading slump! 😌
Here we go....
Our little secret was a suprising book for me. At first, I thought, I will not like it or its not my kind of story.. But boy I was wrong! From the very first chapter, it grasp me! It holds me, charmed me into reading it in less than 12hrs. I mean, I love the pacing, the build of characters, the narration...
I don't want to say anything about the story since I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending??? The last line??? OMG! My mouth was open the whole time! 😦
It made me feel a lot of emotions, from "kilig" (butterflies in the stomach), hope 🙏, sad 😢, hope again.. Haaayyy... 😌 I devoured this book 😂
I know there are a lot of mixed feeling about the last few chapters. Some hate it, some say it was vague, but for me, it was perfect 👏
This book was my redemption from my previous read. Thank God I listened to my instinct and bought this gem💎 Definitely be reading more from the author. 😍
4.5/5 rating 💚💙💜❤️

A really great thriller! I was rooting for the main character and was so invested in her story although I was expecting something a little more regarding the ending.

Seen this one around a lot so I was very excited when I received this suprise copy from Penguin Random House.
Angela is being interrogated by the police about the disappearance her ex-boyfriend's wife, Saskia. She says she doesn't know anything about her disappearance and that she is innocent. But is she? Or is she somehow involved. We go back years before when Angela and H.P first met and from there, their story is told.
I loved the chornology of this novel. It switches back from past to present very smoothly and Angela is an amazing storyteller. It's very hard not to get sucked into this novel because it is very intriguing and you want to know what happens. It seems like a love story and in some ways it is, but there is also a small mystery aspect to it because the big question is still us trying to figure out what happened to Saskia.
It did kind of go downhill at times, but I was still very interested in where the story was going. What gave this novel the .5 boost in rating was the twist at the end. Many others write their entire novel knowing that they want to put the one and only twist at the end of the novel. I feel that it worked very well for this one because if we were to find out what happened to Saksia before the end, then there would have been no point to continue reading.
The twist was so good! At first I thought it was just the one twist. But then Nay adds a few more and I found myself gasping out loud on the bus ride to work. It was very smartly written and the storytelling had to be my favourite thing about this book. Nay is a master at storytelling and creating Angela's character must not have been easy.
A job well done!
Thank you St. Martin's Press for providing me with a finished copy of this novel in exchange for my hoenst review.

Our Little Secret by Roz Nay is a 2018 St. Martin’s Press publication.
Sinister and angsty-
Angela has been brought in for questioning about the disappearance of a woman named Saskia, who happens to be her ex-boyfriend’s wife. She explains to the detective that for him to understand everything he needs to know, she’ll have to start way back at the beginning where she first met HP, and how their relationship developed up to this point.
As detective Novak attempts to get to the truth, he grudgingly allows Angela to take control of the narrative, interrupting occasionally with obvious exasperation, prompting her to clarify something or prodding her along, so they can find out what has happened to Saskia.
Angela weaves a tale of teenage drama, first love, and high angst as she and HP go from friends to lovers. I couldn’t help but get caught up in her story, perhaps remembering the heady feeling of one’s first serious love. This is a clever approach by the author, hooking the reader into the story so completely it was hard to stop reading. As the story progresses, however, things go awry and what follows is the very definition of despair, desperation and obsession, which left me with a palpable feeling of foreboding.
This story has all the great elements that prompts me to examine various sides of human nature, especially the dark side of love. Obsession, jealousy, and betrayal all make an appearance somewhere in this sordid tale, which is what made it so compulsively readable. But, as the characters dive deeper into the depths their relationship choices and woes, willing to do anything to have the one thing that slid through their fingers, the scenario presented to the reader was nearly too bizarre. Angela’s perspective is really the only one we have, and while she exhibits odd behavior, one might feel some sympathy for her, at times, since, haven’t most of us experienced a crushing end to a relationship? Yet, there is also something here which suggests she isn’t being completely honest, or maybe she’s a genius manipulator, which her self- absorbed narrative might suggest, as she provides detective Novak with alternative explanations for what may have happened to the missing Saskia. One also gathers that Novak is more in control of the interview than Angela is giving him credit for. Does Angela know where Saskia went? Did she leave of her own accord or is she in dire straits somewhere… or has something bad happened to her?
This book is pretty short, and easy to read in one sitting, which I nearly did. It is very addictive, but unfortunately, it spiraled out of control in the last quarter of so of the book, and the ending was entirely too outlandish for my taste. I wasn’t surprised by the way things ended but couldn’t quite see it playing out that way. The beginning is quite strong, but fizzled out, ending with an anticlimactic whimper. Still, as a debut novel goes, this one has moments of brilliance, which gives me high hopes for this author. I will definitely keep my eye on her progress and am willing to give her books another chance in the future.

Well written-I finished it in one day. I usually wind up disliking books if they make me confused about how I feel about characters. In this character-driven book, I think that was the point.

Fast paced and always on the brink of letting you in on the secret, Our Little Secret is a phenomenal quick read for fans of psychological thrillers. I saw a little of myself in each character, which I think lends to the books gripping nature. While it starts off on the slower side, it quickly ups the ante as more and more evidence pours in from the ongoing investigation.
Everything about this book was right. The characters. The plot. The format in which the story is told. It’s all so good. As the plot unfolds, you find yourself questioning each move of every character, and wondering who exactly holds the key to the little secret.
Angela is questioned by the police regarding the disappearance of her ex-boyfriend's wife.
She denies any knowledge of the whereabouts of the missing woman, but agrees to tell her story if she can tell it her way. This means starting the tale ten years previous, when sixteen year old Angela met HP, her best friend and, briefly, her boyfriend. HP eventually meets and falls in love with Saskia, whom Angela initially blames for stealing HP away. Over the years, though – as Angela tells it -- she becomes a friend to both and a loving pseudo-aunt to their child. But her love/obsession with HP never goes away…
This is one of the best examples of an unreliable narrator I have read. Angela is intriguing, her mind a devious whirlwind as she spins a tale with no clue as to her lack of self-awareness. The ending was surprising. A cracking good read!

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. I waited a bit to write this review because I'm a tad conflicted. This book is labeled a thriller, but it didn't read like a typical thriller. There wasn't much suspense. I also felt that the ending was rushed and anticlimactic. There wasn't a big plot twist or much of a red herring. It was just like here's what happened. However, I was completely immersed in the story Angela was telling. I felt like I was her and was sympathetic to what was happening to her...up till the end. The reading itself was smooth and fast. It was one of those books where the pages fly by because the story is told in such a way that it just flows. I wish I could have gotten to see more of the Angela we see during the end of her stay at the Parkers' where we start to get a glimpse into her mindset. For a debut book, this was pretty decent. Like I said, I loved the writing style and the author's ability to pull me into the story, but it could stand to see a little more work on plot and suspense. I will definitely check out Roz Nay's future books as I think it'll go up from here.
