I LOVED this book. Everything was spot on and perfect. No notes. The characters felt real. The pacing was great. It was perfect from start to finish. This book is for anyone who has experienced religious trauma related to sex and deals with shame/guilt around sex. You can tell that the author is well educated on this experience, because she handles it with the tact that is needed but doesn’t make the atmosphere overly doom and gloom. I wish I had this book when I was a teen, but it still healed me in my 20s. So good that I don’t have anything else to say, but that I will be reading more from this author.

hands down, this is one of my favorite YA books of all time!!!! i tend to think i'm not a YA girlie, but then i read YA books like this that heal a piece of my inner child and i just know i'm playing in my own face. i laughed. i cried. i felt seen and appreciated. i was lowkey scared to read this because of the purity culture aspect, but goffney did such a great job at pushing against it and that made me cry even more. monique is THAT girl, and i just wanted to give her the biggest hug ever.

This book is for the girlies who related to Beyoncé's 'Church Girt'. It's me. I am girlies.

This coming-of-age novel did a superb job at having nuanced, much needed conversations about sex, peer pressure, purity culture, and religion.

Watching Momo deconstruct everything she thought knew about sex, discovering bodily autonomy, and subsequently becoming a better her made my heart swell.

I also loved the focus on cultivating strong friendships! I loved watching Momo dismantle the preconceived notions about Reggie and reject the misogynoir against Sasha.

I honestly wish I had this book growing up because teen me needed it. (Former church kids with religious trauma stand up! 🗣️)

Can we make this book required reading? Because this should be required reading!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I wish I had something like this to read when I was a teen. It handled the topics of religion, sex, friendship, family, romance, race—so many things—in such a respectful and honest way while still being funny, entertaining, relatable, and believably from a teen perspective. It felt affirming to read, as if I could have a sense of closure and healing for my childhood wounds through Monique’s coming of age story.
