This feels just like visiting an old friend. I love seeing Daine's adventure and all of the friends she meets along the way. This is such a fun book.

I was already a big fan of Tamora Pierce before I read this book, and I love wolves, so it was pretty much a given that I would love this book. It has a great story, interesting characters (and new ones!), and heart. If you enjoyed the first in the series, you will this one as well.
The plot is interesting, but the characters are really where this book shines. Diana continues to grows throughout the book. I loved seeing that! There are new characters introduced in this book and they were great to read about and see develop as well. I highly recommend this book to readers of all ages!

This book was just as good or better than the last one with many new and already established characters that add so much to the story. I loved the characters especially Daine and Numair they both add so much to the story with Daine learning more about her abilities and Numair being a great mentor all throughout this. There are many characters here that add so much like Maura a spirited little girl the many animals in the story especially the wolves also the cats they add so much to the story. The story was a great action-packed with Daine and the group meeting up with the wolves to help they find out someone is planning to overthrow the Tortall king so her and the group stop all that make friends along the way and learn more about herself. I will be reading more soon.

Daine and Numair are off to find what is happening in Dunlath. Several groups of soldiers have disappeared. Daine's wolf pack has also requested her help at Dunlath. Turns out the humans there are causing all kinds of problems. They have fortified the lake and brought in immortals and slaves and guards. They are cutting down the trees and running off the game and polluting the lake. It seems the lord and lady of Dunlath are conspiring against King Jonathan. They have brought in the immortals and mages from Carthak to help. Daine gets caught in a spell that encircles Dunlath and is on her own. She has to gain the help of her friends, animals humans and immortals alike, in order to stop the treason and save the area.
Daine actually grows up a bit in this book. She learns to think on her own since she is cut off from Numair and Alanna, which helps her see the world as less black and white and recognize the shades of gray. We also get to explore more of Daine's magic and how it affects those she bonds with. I like that Daine has to make friends with more than animals in order to survive. She becomes friends with immortals and humans as well. I also like that she wasn't reliant on Numair and Alanna for rescue, but was able to get things fixed on her own with a bit of help.

This is the second book in Tamora Pierce’s The Immortals series, which I did not realise when I started it. Fortunately, you don’t really need to have read the previous book first. It’s set in a world of myth and magic, and the heroine is Daine, a teenage girl with “wild magic” – this includes the ability to talk to animals, and to take on their forms. In this story, she goes to help out a wolf pack she once lived with, whose habitat is being ruined by humans. Despite the fantasy setting, the wolf behaviour is more accurate than in many books, though there are a couple of errors here and there. I found it an enjoyable read.
I enjoyed this second book in the Immortals series just as much as the first. I like Daine even more, if that is possible. Her faults as well as her can-do, unafraid attitude make her an excellent heroine to read. I will definitely be following her into the next book.
My only complaint, again, would be her age. She acts a lot older than she is. And I am pretty sure now, after Numair (sorta) saves her in the end that he is the romantic interest. But he's pretty old compared to her and she's only fourteen in this book. I wish Pierce had made her sixteen in this book so by the time the fourth book comes around she's a much more reasonable age for a romance with Numair. Not that I can't suspend belief enough for it to happen, but it's kind of gross. So in my head, I have to think her older or him considerably younger.

Daine is called to come help right the problems of her old wolf pack. Daine discovers rebellion is planned in the area and must undertake to take down the magical shield surrounding the rebelling area, with the help of animals, local humans, ogres and some immortals, to let Alanna, Numair and reinforcements in to deal with the Cartharki mages and local rebellion forces.
Daine is a further developed, becoming cranky when she has to take care of a younger girl running away from the rebelling castle. She also has to overcome her own prejudice against Stormwings, and deal with her own fears as she masters magic given by the badger god.
