I love the action scenes and the way the Immortals come into play as characters/races (species?). Pierce deals with the animal voices so well and their speech was a main source of humor throughout the book. Their natures were developed by their unique speech patterns so that readers could understand how wolves/eagels/marmots/etc behaved on their own. My favorite parts were when the animals made our human expressions their own. The plot is fast paced and I could hardly resist the temptation not to finish it in one day.

I picked up the first book in this series a few days ago because I was feeling blue. I decided to continue reading this series because I loved it as a kid and it was fun to return to it. These books are so nostalgic for me. It’s nice to read an easy book that holds a special place in my heart.

I'm really enjoying the new interactions with immortals in this installment, and the descriptions of animal life, thoughts, and feelings are enjoyable and thought provoking.

A great example of why Tamora Pierce's books are wonderful. Daine is easy to like and her story is very interesting. A wonderful fantasy read with a cast of colorful characters.

I devoured this book in one setting, and went right onto the third. These are even better than the Lioness Quartet.

Daine! And her animals! And her weird somewhat inappropriate relationship with Numair <3. Not my favourite of the Tortall universe, but still great
adventurous lighthearted medium-paced

I would’ve loved to discover this series as a young girl.

A second book AWESOME !!
When the wolf pack that helped Daine when she was younger called for help, Daine expects to negotiate with hunters or disgruntled villagers. But far worse danger threatens the entire valley and even Tortall and between bad secrets and conspiracies, Daine must face her destiny ...
This second book is just as good as the first =) The author's style is still awesome (I love the way she staged the points of view of the different animals =)), the universe she created is AMAZING (Her mythology is rich and the various creatures she creates are AWESOME !!) and the plot and subplots are complex and intriguing (I love political conspiracies x))
The characters (animals and humans, mortals and immortals) are absolutely brilliant : complex, with a past and many secrets, they hold us in suspense throughout the book !! I loved Tkaa, I am absolutely fan of Kitten (this dragon is really too cute and she totally makes me come to terms with stories of dragons), the Stormwings (I looove Rikash and I hope we will see him again =D) and of course Numair (he's mad but I love him xD) and Daine =)
I really liked the small Maura who, despite her young age, is incredibly brave =) She reminds me of Dove from the Trickster series and I would have liked to know what she will become =)
Anyway, I'm looking forward to read the next book ><
PS: When I'm older, I want to be a mage like Numair x)
