I liked this book much better than I remember from the first time I read it. This book is mostly contained in a new location with with almost entirely new characters. As a teen myself, I wanted more time with Onua and Alanna and the other Riders. But now I appreciate the fact that Daine needs some time alone to grow and learn about herself. She makes amazing progress in this book, and it's because she's forced to rely mostly on herself, with the help of her People friends. I especially liked Quickmunch, but the wolves are great too.
This is an excellent sequel. I love to watch Daine's journey as she strikes out on her own, discovers new talents and new friends, and learns important lessons about tolerance. I also like the escalation of the conflict between the two countries. It's the next logical step after the first book and it leads nicely to things coming to a head in the third book. Overall a very enjoyable reread.
Like Wild Magic, this entry in the Immortals series is better paced and plotted than any of the Alanna books. The stakes are high and clear. However, Wolf-Speaker fell a little flat for me personally. There's a lot, a lot, a lot of little animal side characters introduced who are cute but just not very compelling to me. Also the ogres are a clunky addition.
That said, Daine's magic and confidence are growing at a steady and believable rate, alongside her understanding of her role in the greater drama unfolding. I look forward to seeing what she learns next.

I would generally consider this book my least favorite of the quartet, but I still adore it as I do the whole series. I think it just has a little less action than the rest of the books, or maybe the action isn't the kind that keeps me as interested. I'm not really sure. I like it more the more times I read the series.
