I loved the continued development of Daine's magic and her understanding of how to make the most of it. Plus I loved the repeat badger visits that happened in this book. The plot line involving the wolves was interesting, though at times I found it distracting.... and I found it a lot more pacy in the last third of the book when the main battle scene was taking place with Daine and Numair. As I'm re-reading these books a bit later on in life, I noticed more clearly the messages about tolerance, acceptance and understanding of those who are different from each other as Daine starts to have more experience with Immortals like Stormwings and Hurrocks. It was also interesting to hear the reflections of the wolves who have had engagement with people and how it impacts their behaviour and makes me wonder what's happening in animals minds in the 'real world' outside of this story. I am still loving this series and already can't wait to start the next book in the quartet.

I never thought I’d be bored by a Tamora Pierce book, but that this took me six days to get through while doing little else but reading says a lot.
Daine does a lot of spying through animals’ eyes, and even when things ramp up 80% of the way through it’s far too much sitting around and observing. Plus, hints of Daine/Numair, which I don’t like at all. The villains also seemed more stereotypically villainous in this book - your typical crazy monarch/noble/ruler. I know Roger from SOTL wasn’t exactly stable, but at least we didn’t see much of him.
Positives were that the mining was believable and a good motive (as opposed to just ‘because they’re evil), the wolf pack was kinda cute, I guess, even if a bit like glorified dogs. Iakoju was the one bright element in the entire book.
Yolane reminds me a lot of Imajane from Trickster, which unfortunately is now tied with TIQ as my least favourite series so far. Hopefully Emperor Mage will be more absorbing.

Back in the day, this was my least favorite of the series and the only one I didn't reread. But today, honestly, I love it almost as much as the first one. The reason I didn't like it as much was because it's a bit of a departure from the characters I love, Daine spends a lot of this book on her own with animals separated from Numair, and even though he's in it some, he's the only one from previous books to play a major role. I miss the rest of the cast and the normal setting. But that being said, on reread I do really love the story and I love the new cast of all the animals. I think the plot is really strong and I was surprised how much I do love this book.
While Wild Magic was a blockbuster, Wolf Speaker is a Lifetime drama. The first book described the wonder of Daine's powers and the action of conflicts with the immortals. Its sequel, Wolf Speaker touches on secrets within Daine's past and the less attractive side of her bond with animals.
Not as good as the first -- people just make better three dimensional characters than The People -- but it is a welcome continuation of the series.

Nothing to complain about. A fantastic sequel.
The Immortals series is my favourite in a group of delightful books. Wolfspeaker had previously been my LEAST favourite but I immensely enjoyed it this time around
