❛Even when you were gone, the echoes of you still lived inside me, and I would play them over and over in my mind just so I wouldn’t lose the sound. I’ve loved you in every incarnation, and that will never end.❜

a fact : the suspense facet of the intrigue is not as refreshing as it used to.

"I would put up with a million monsters for you."

the storyline walks through an identical and classic scheming with a succession of actions that culminates in the end and your typical small town romance filled with attaching characters —who have been through a lot, — family dramas and a breathtaking settings. it’s understandable that a redundant skeleton and plot-shape might.. bore? but I frankly don’t mind.

" Some part of me had thought something innate inside me called out for abuse.”
(this quote broke me)

Maddie attempted to escape a violent and abusive ex by running to her natal town. back in Cidar Ridge she had no alternative but to confront her best friend, Nash, whom she somewhat brushed aside in the course of the two years that occupied her last relationship. but after some impromptu, disturbing, apparitions and revelations concerning her past, Nash made the decision to stay with Maddie in her rental cabin to protect her from any potential reprisals.

"I’ve loved you in every incarnation. And I don’t want to miss any future one either."

I loved both the protagonists. despite the friends to lovers arc not being one of my favorites, their bond was the cry of soulmates in the manner in which they acted with care and support toward one another.
the romance wasn’t fast passed, they took some time to act on their feelings and mutual attraction. the surprising part of their relationship was the smut scenes, and I was pleased that the author put in the effort to add more spice to her usual writing.

"This was what I needed—Maddie, me, a family dinner. Life getting back to normal, the way it always."

as always, the plot-line was well-complemented by the family dynamics and supporting characters.
i can’t wait to read roan and aspen book! still wondering with who lawson will end up but i just know im gonna love his book as well.

❛ Maddie laughed, the sound warming parts of me I hadn’t even realized were cold.❜

Devoured in less than a day.
The story features some of my favourite tropes. It was my first CC read, but I’ve now downloaded and started reading them all.
I’m a sucker for a fun and protective family dynamic and I love the humour between the siblings.
The story was fast paced, romantic & steamy and everything I look for in a romance novel.

As always I was hooked. I could not for the life of me but this book down. I literally lost sleep! The childhood friends to soulmates trope is something I don’t read often, but Nash and Maddie were honestly one of my favorites. The way these two just cared for each other and were being each other’s safe space was so heartwarming. I loved getting to see some moments between Nash and his brothers along with Maddie and the girls. Such a great book!

Small town friends to lovers with a thriller twist (trigger warning for multiple abusive relationships). Poor Maddie had way to deal with way too much violence in her lifetime. Nash is just adorable and his donut addiction is ridiculous.

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

After leaving a toxic relationship, Maddie decides to return to her hometown, Cedar Ridge, to heal and get a fresh start. When she returns, she reconnects with her childhood best friend, Nash Hartley. Maddie has loved him since she can remember, but she was sure he never felt that way about her, so she never told him. Unbeknownst to her, Nash has loved her for just as long and is determined to show her his true feelings. As their friendship turns into more, they're ready for their future and everything that comes with it. But when Maddie's past comes back to haunt them, their future together is put at risk.

I'll be the first to admit that friends to lovers isn't a trope I usually like. The reason why is I often feel like one of the characters pined after the other one more and it feels imbalanced. But Catherine really said, "I'll show you how great this trope can be" when she wrote this masterpiece.

I LOVED this book. I devoured it in a matter of hours. The reason this books works so well as friends to lovers? Mutual pining and obsession. Nash Hartley is as obsessed, if not slightly more, with Maddie as she is with him. The fact that they've cared so deeply for one another for years makes their romance so so so sweet.

In Fragile Sanctuary, another book by Catherine, two of the characters are described as speaking a language only the two of them know. That 1000% fits Maddie and Nash. There's a language, sometimes verbally or non-verbally, that these two have with one another that they have with no one else. They don't have to say any words and they can tell how the other person is feeling. It's so sweet and beautiful 🥺

I love Nash so much. I loved the different ways he showed Maddie how much he cared for her, but I really loved how her verbalized his feelings. He never missed a moment to tell her how much she meant to him. My heart ached in the best way every time he confessed his feelings externally and internally. I also loved how jealous he got over his teenaged nephew hitting on Maddie. It made me laugh every time. No one gets between Nash Hartley and his Maddie.
